Some military buddies and I are in Yuma, AZ for 2 weeks and we're going to get a day off next weekend to go ride. If you guys had one day to ride around here, where would you go?
What are the mandatory places to see while we're here?

That's tough. Just about either direction is nothing but flat, open spaces. You go thru the desert if you go West. But East doesn't look much better. If it were me, I'd go North and East. At least then you've got Prescott National Forest and some terrain other than flat.
North. Follow the Colorado to Lake Havasu. Get lunch and take pictures of London Bridge. On the way down take the other side of the river. Keep in mind you'll be riding in the desert so not much elevation change but I think that would be a nice day ride. Second choice would be head west on 8 up into the SD mountains. Take the sunrise hiway (79) to Julian. Get some lunch and pie. Head east on 78 through Brawley and back to Yuma. Long day.
was in bisbee and tombstone last year. really great riding. only thing i didn't like was how hokey tombstone was. do not I repeat do not go the the shootout at the ok corral .it is really bad. big nose kate saloon is cool though. wish we had spent more time in Bisbee
To be honest there aint a whole lot of great stuff to see around Yuma. You're prolly better off taking Rt 8 out to San Diego for the day. It's about 175 miles one way. Bisbee/Tombstone is a good ride too but quite a bit further. Depends on ow much time ya got.

I would say a lot depends om how many miles you consider is a days ride. Lake Havasu should make a nice ride. Yuma to Oatman going through Havasu is about 350 might be a bit much for a day ride.
