Lurking for quite some time? Your profile says you joined today.
It seems to me that you are up to something. Sorry if it offends you but I just see it that way. Buying a bike is as simple, why add someone else into the mix? Too many scams going on these days...do some research and buy a bike.

Are you sure? You need to visit more dealer. I am in the same boat. I just found a dealer very up front and I did not need to haggle at all. $1000 off the MSRP. A few dealers just an hour away asked for more than MSRP, so do you homework. Good luck

You don't need to register a user id to read the forum, only to post. I was reading here for a couple months before I registered.

Non taken (offense), but to clarify:

I had username previously (plickerman); however did not remember email address I had back then (2007) so when trying to reset my now forgotten password I couldn't do so. Also, this forum allows viewing without being registered....hence the reason for forgetting password for previous username.

Today, I had a specific issue for which I wanted feedback, so I re-registered and posted the message.

I agree with you that buying a bike is simple; however I don't discard ideas based on that notion so this post is part of my research in a sense.

Thanks!

[Edit]: Should have read above post before rambling on this one.....lol...

Ever hear of E-bay? I bought all five of my bikes there and they were exactly as decribed.

Right now the dealers are starting to clear up their 2009 stock to get ready for the 2010's and there are deals out there to be had. I would look in areas where the average income is lower as prices seem to coincide with income (sucks for us here in Monterey). Shop around a bit, head to one of these areas and don't tell them you are from out of town until you make a deal. I'm not sure how Texas is but here in Cali they stick it to you if you buy from out of state. I'm sure that you can get a better deal in West Texas than you woudl in say DFW...

My take is; do your homework and look real hard at a pre-owned bike. HD riders normally take excellent care of their bikes. Let's face it, right now a HD is a luxury item that most people are unloading so they can keep thier house or whatever. I am not saying take advantage of someone but take advantage of the market.
When I bought my bike 2yrs ago it was 6 mos old with 1455miles. The owner had put $32,000 into it(had all reciepts) and I gave him $20,000.
Good luck!

You should be shooting for $1500-$2000 under MSRP. It's the norm in my parts. Can't imagine things are all that different in the great State of Texas. Keep searching.
