There are differences in prices between the years to, the 2007 Dyna FXDC MRSP was $14'645-00 where as in 2008 it dropped to $12'995-00 so the guys who bought in 2008 like me scored, go figure that one out,

Actually the Deluxe and Rocker are the only Softails that sit lower than any Dyna. The Softail Custom and the Crossbones sit higher than any Dyna. The rest are pretty even.

I think the first guy had it right: Supply and demand. I don't think it costs any more to build a sports car than a sedan but the sports car is always more expensive. Not that the Softtail is a sports car and the Dyna a sedan. Actually it's kinda the reverse. Now I'm confused ...

Sports cars are more expensive because of materials and R&D, largely. Boutique brands, though, do have far higher manufacturing costs.

As for the Dyna and Softail......for years no major engineering improvements have happened to one line that hasn't also happened to the other (within a year or so, if not at the same time), e.g. engine changes, 5- to 6-speed, etc.

So why the cost difference?

People will spend the money.

If a thirsty man walked up to your lemonade stand, convinced that your lemonade was the one and only kind for him, would you take the time to explain how many kinds of beverages there are, their differences, etc., or would you just sell him an $18,000 cup of lemonade?

I do think it has to do with Softails being in higher demand. Softails have the higher sales, so they know they can charge more for them.

HEY! I resemble that statment!

If they can get people to pay more for them so they think they can look cool then I don't blame HD. Hell, I'd do the same thing.
