Default clutch cable lube method

I used the "Dawg/pressurized baggie" method of lubing my clutch cable this evening. It worked pretty well. Hardly any mess and got a fair amount of lube in the cable. Thanks Dawg for the "technical" info...this site has some useful info and very experienced maintenance technicians.

my buddy has an 06 883c. his clutch cable is leaking oil from the clutch lever. his left side gets sprinkled when we ride. we figure he's just an idiot and overfilled his oil causing some back pressure from the primary.

he'll be doing an oil change this week, so hopefully that solves his problem. (for those of you who've been reading every thread, you'll know my 09 Iron is at my local dealer waiting on a throttle position sensor (which should arrive tomorrow thanks to dagumpmeister!). anyhoots, I rode two up with him back home when it was determined I shouldnt be riding my bike until she's fixed. I got oil on my left leg from this bonehead's ride. while we were there, he purchased oil, filter etc...I had to carry that in a backpack while riding bitch...it was actually pretty funny but I hope to NEVER have to do that again.

I'd like to hear about the dawg pressurized baggie method too. What I do is use a spray can of 6 in 1 oil and spray it down the cable from the hand lever (You have to partially take the clutch lever apart). The stuff is also supposed to be a cleaner and cables are listed as being one of the things it's good for. I got it at the dealer so I know I paid too much for it. It was not a "Geniune Harley part". I bet you could get it at an auto parts store or Honda dealer for less.

I disconnect the cable at the lever and and wrap duct tape around the end to make a funnel.I then spray some of the Motion Pro cable lube in the vertically placed cable.I let it drain into the cable and then repeat a couple times.
I also lube the lever pivet pin with grease.

you got a service manual?... Worth its weight in gold!

For the clutch lever its best to lube when you adjust your clutch pack. You will back off the jam nut on your cable, back off adjuster nut (clutch handle will be loose). Then you will loosen jam nut on clutch pack, behind your derby cover. Following your service manual, mine may be different. You tighten the shaft and back it off a 1/2 turn, holding shaft with allen wrech, tighten the clutch pack jam nut. You will then pull the cable housing from the clutch lever perch, put 10 drops of oil inside housing (letting in seep in, between drops) then you will take the slack out of lever by back the adjuster nut away from the jam nut, till there is like 1/16-1/8" between perch and cable housing. Then you tighten jamnut to cable adjuster. Slide cover back over adjuster. Done and done.

DONT KNOW ABOUT THE PRESSURIZED BAG METHOD, BUT CABLE LUBE WITH A DROPLET BOTTLE WILL DO JUST FINE, I USE 3 IN 1 OIL.

http://www.crocblades.com/gifts/3-in...3in1-10135.cfm --- THIS IS STUFF I USE.

Check your service manual for accuart spec, im shooting from the hip here. If you dont have a manual, ask around inside your model specific forum...

Hypodermic needle filled with cable lube. Stick it in the end of the cable and let loose some lube...been doing it this way for years...never seen a better method...Harley came out with a needle like thing which works well too...basically a soft tube with a needle in the end and you stick it in the end of the cable and have at it...why complicate a simple thing?
