I've done the search but can't find any definitive opinions regarding good-to-great earbuds that will stay in your ear if you're not wearing a helmet. Having an in-line volume would help too! Any help out there?
get them custom made...that's the only way they will stay in well.... had mine done by an Ear Dr..... local HD dealer was doing an "ear plug day" thing... molds are made and in about 3 weeks, custom plugs.. they can also make them with speakers for Ipods/mp3 players too.
Put them in your ears and they will expand to give a secure and comfortable fit (and 1 pair will last a long time).
Do a good job of filtering out noise, but I mainly wear them to keep the wind from pounding on your eardrums.
If you spend a full day out on the highway without the 'plugs', with the wind pounding your eardrums, your head will feel like a 'bongo drum' for a few hours.
Wal-Mart sells some that are made by Koss. Comes with three different size ear pieces. They act as plugs and earphones, blocks out most of the wind noise. Also has an inline volume. $25. You don't have to have a set custom made for them to stay in your ears.
I have these and use the tips similar to the style in this picture and those things aren't going anywhere. I'll admit I wear a helmet, but even if I didn't and had the wind blowing on those wires I don't think those would fall out of my ears since I have to work those things a bit just to get them out when I stop or get home.
They are very comfortable also. I did a 280 mile ride yesterday with them in the entire time and couldn't feel them at all.
