Default Windshield tip -

I just want to pass on something I learned years ago. Most of you probably know this but I'm guessing a few don't.

When you've pulled into the gas station and filled up, do not use the windshield squeege that's conveniently setting in a water container. I did this years ago and without realizing I pulled out a squeege that must have last been used by some 4 wheel offroader. After I finished rubbing all the bugs to soften them up I had the worst scratched windshield I had ever seen.

I will take a paper towel, wet it and soften things up but never have used a squeege again.

Or better yet, carry your own small can of "Lemon Pledge" and a clean cotton cloth. Clean your windshield with that at every opportunity. Works better than any expensive plastics cleaner/polisher that can be named. ............ BC

NEVER use a paper towel on that windshield, and NEVER use any ammonia-laden product. When on the road, I wait until I'm done for the day and use hot, soapy water and one of those fuzzy wax-removal microfiber towels they sell at auto parts stores....usually a light green color. Ammonia will eat the coating from the windshield, so stay away from a glass cleaner.
Just my 2 cents........

I carry a damp rag with a large dab Turtle wax in a zip lock bag and another rag to remove the wax. Rub the wax on until the bug juice disappears, let it haze over, then remove the wax. I know Turtle wax (liquid) is safe because I've be doing it for years on Lexan. Use other brands at your own risk.

Lemon Pleadge works, but it does attract a lot of bees.

McGuiers Final Inspection is terrific for taking bugs or dust off of your windshield or paint, won't scratch anything. I keep a bottle in my tour-pak.

I agree - don't use anything at the gas station. I carry a can of Plexus http://www.autogeek.net/plexplasclea.html

and a microfiber towel. This stuff works great.

I knew that but unfortunatley for me my roommate didn't. He borrowed my YJ jeep to go skiing and on the way back got gas and washed all the salt and road spray off with the nice gas station squeegee on all my plastic side and rear windows on a 4 month old soft top...............

he is no longer a roommate ..........,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,but he is still alive.....[:@]
