Default CLICK IN FRONT END

Recently bought my first HD, a 97 Road King, and me and the bike are becoming best friends. But my friend has a problem. When I am riding, I hear a clicking noise that seems to be coming from the right side of the front wheel. This stops when I apply the front brake, so naturally I thought it was in the brake. I cannot find anything loose and have looked to the point of frustration. My next step is to have it checked out at the shop, but I would like to solve the problem myself. Does anyone have any ideas?

Click with bike speed, click with bumps, engine rpm...

Is it constant or intermittant? Is it rythmic?

Once you apply brakes, you have loaded the entire front end. Could be anything there. More info will help everyone help you.

Does it sound like a cricket noise coming from the front? If so it is most likely the brake pads, I have this noise but mine makes the crickets mad when I hit the brakes it gets louder.

Thanks for the reply....yea, I guess you could say it kinda has rythm. Stronger than chirping crickets though. Kinda like a rattle, like something's loose. But I can't find anything to tighten. I though that since when I applied the front brake and it stopped, the brakes were rattling, but they seem solid, fender seems tight too. It seems that when I hit the interstate with higher speeds, it disapears. Thanks for all the help.

I had a noise like that, it was driving me crazy. It turned out to be the kickstand rattleing against the frame. the little rubber piece the stand rests on had turned.

HMMMMM, now that you mention it, my stand is a bit loose. Crazy is the correct word. This sounds almost like bearings, but then why would it stop when I tug on the front brake? I'll check the kick stand just in case. I have been wanting to replace the stand as it kinda worries me like it might slip one of these days. Thanks for the words of wisdom.

Perhaps the steering head bearings need grease and/or a torque check is in order?
