Every now and then I get a noise coming from the front end when I apply the front brake. It's not the clunking noise but more of a click or a pop. Doesn't do it over bumps, just when using the front brake, not too loud and not all the time when riding.
I can get the bike to do this all the time by holding the front brake and pushing and pulling on the handlebars (rocking bike back and forth compressing the forks). Is this just the brake pads slapping back and forth in the calipers or the beginning of the dreaded front end clunk issue?
Sometimes the front calipers will make a odd humming sounding when the brakes are applied will the bike is moving. It's something to do with the pads compressing against the holes in the disc. If I pay attention then I might hear the brake noise.
Yeah I know all about the rotor buzzing noise, which is normal. This is totally different. Like I said if I hold the front brake (this is with the bike shut off and not moving) and rock the bike back and forth it makes a pop or click when pushed forward and does it again when pulled back. I'm just concerned about some play in the steering neck, and this may be the beginning of the whole steering stem nut/washer/clunk issue. Maybe it has something to do with the brake pads moving back and forth withing the caliper which may be normal?
