you don't mention if you are in ca. or not. lane splitting is not illegal there. also, as someone already mentioned, you shouldn't be just cruising in the left lane, do your pass, and get over to the right. louisiana just passed a law that says that you can get a ticket for impeding traffic in the left lane, even if the traffic you are impeding is speeding.
course, a lot of the old blue hairs still do 10 under in the left lane for miles and miles for no reason.

i usually do about 5 over but have been know to do a little quicker to get away from a gaggle of cars. i don't like to be stuck in the middle of a pack.

About a month or so ago I was on my way home running about 70-75, on I-20, watching two cages trying to share the same space a few car lengths ahead when all of a sudden a rocket comes by me in the right land, I was in the middle lane, and sacred the **** out of me. Then I realized he was in a wheel stand and he was also standing on the seat holding on to the bars! then as he came close to the next exit in on move he drops the front end and drops down on to the seat and exits at a high rate of speed.

Yes, he's a talented rider, but I believe there is a time and place for everything and on the expressway at the start of rush hour in Hot Atlanta is no place to be showing off!

Probably a very long time, if ever. Some of us have been riding and driving like mad men for many years. There are degrees of risk - just because a move scares the crap out of you, doesn't mean it was a particularly risky move for the other rider.

Some guy on a Harley comes up quickly in the right lane, swerves into my lane and cuts between me and the car in the right lane and continues on to the stop light 100 yards ahead.

I wanted to say to him "I'm surprised you're still alive driving like that." but the light changed and he hammered on it and was gone.

I check my mirrors often and try to be aware of what is around me, but when someone is going that fast and swerving lanes like that, it makes me ask: wtf is wrong with some people?!?

I got no problem with someone cutting a lane in stop n go traffic or at a stop light, but come on!

So now I learned that I need to watch for d-bag motorcycle riders as much as I need to watch out for cages.
Just goes to show even harley riders are dumb.

Sounds like the other guy executed his move smoothly As you gain more seat time/miles, you won't startle so easily. BTW, your lane position wasn't great. If you're gonna ride the left lane, do it to the right of center.

Eyespy,

We are all guilty of riding in the left lane for no reason. Left should be for passing. Period. We hire cops to enforce traffic laws.

Passing or not passing, if he's gonna ride the left lane, he should be right of center. Just helping out a new rider. BTW, round these parts, we don't have cops for that, we have CHP

Sounds like something I would do. If ANY vehicle is in the left lane going the same speed as the vehicle next to them in the right lane, I'll find some way to get around them.

The left lane is used to pass slower traffic in the right lane. If you aren't passing someone, get back in the right lane so other people can pass with ease.
