I'm on my 2nd year of riding - literally 6 months of experience. This has happened twice to me so far:
There's 2 north-bound and 2 south-bound lanes. Speed limit is 40mph, traffic is doing 45mph. I'm in the left lane, just to the left of center. There's a car behind me, maybe 3 car lengths back, and a car to the right of me, just slightly behind me.
Some guy on a Harley comes up quickly in the right lane, swerves into my lane and cuts between me and the car in the right lane and continues on to the stop light 100 yards ahead.
I wanted to say to him "I'm surprised you're still alive driving like that." but the light changed and he hammered on it and was gone.
I check my mirrors often and try to be aware of what is around me, but when someone is going that fast and swerving lanes like that, it makes me ask: wtf is wrong with some people?!?
I got no problem with someone cutting a lane in stop n go traffic or at a stop light, but come on!
So now I learned that I need to watch for d-bag motorcycle riders as much as I need to watch out for cages.
Same thing happened to me on I-295. Only, I was changing lanes due to a slowpoke. Checked my mirror and did the head check. Just crossed the painted line and a ricer flashes past at an insane rate of speed and continues to switch lanes to dodge cars. 2 feet more to my right or 2 feet to his left, we would have crashed in the center lane of an Interstate hiway with traffic traveling at 70 mph.
Don't worry, people who drive like that aren't long for the gene pool.
You know, that's kind of what I was thinking. You hear about all the motorcycle accidents in the news and it makes you wonder if most of those people are the ones who drive like that. Statistical probability makes me think 'yes'.

I wouldn't make predictions on his or your odds. He rides like a fool and you are new. If I was writing insurance for either of you the premium would be high. I know a few old school riders I would not bet would still be here and not all of them made it but I have seen a lot of newer riders not make it also. My advice is ride defensive and maybe you will live to be an old rider. JMO

Hard to say but I do hate it when people ride in the left lane holding up traffic. Whether they are going the speed limit or not, if they are holding someone up...get out of the way!
