Default Harley blowout!

I don't know what the situation is in other parts of North America, but Harley is having a blowout here in Alberta. Until July 15th 2009, for their "Screw it, let's ride!" campaign, dealers are offering anywhere from $1500.00 to $2750.00 in-store credit when you buy a full-size (96 c.i. model) bike. The credit varies by dealer, I would guess according to how much stock they have to clear. One dealer, who shall remain nameless, appears to be discounting certain bikes by $2500.00 in lieu of the credit. The same dealer is offering $1500.00 in-store credit on new 2008 models. If these don't clear, said dealer will have 2008, 2009 and 2010 models to sell in a couple of weeks.
So much for waiting lists...

Don't know if "in store credit" would convince me to buy a new bike but $2,500 off the price would get me to trade my Heritage for a new Cross Bones in a minute. $2,500 worth of Harley merchandise is equivalant to about $25 of regular stuff.

Sorry to p*ss on your parade, dude, but if you buy a 2008 model from this unnamed dealer, basically a 2yo bike, you pay MSRP but you get $1,500 in store credit? Big friggin' deal!
Call your insurance before you take the plunge and ask them how much they'll pay you if your "new" 2008 bike is stolen tomorrow. I think you'll be surprised.
I can get a better deal today from lots of dealers in the US. As far as store credit, I don't want to be forced to buy in one place, especially when I can find cheaper HD accessories and merchandise on the web.
My 0,02cts.

That's a COLD statement. $2500 reg = $25 HD

I will agree that most all of their prices are at 100% retail.
Most items I have bought at the dealership are about the same as some other companies prices but with the 15% off I get with my HOG membership, and hitting the 20% sales, most of the time that makes the HD parts equal or about the same. Also the stuff I have bought from HD IMO is top of line quality and I have never had a problem getting anything to fit.
So the little bit that I pay for HOG saves me a bunch at the end of the Yr.

The above is what I think also. The Harley stuff with the discount and sale prices are far better than most aftermarket stuff. The quality is excellent and the fit is too. No probs with Harley stuff as long as you buy what you want and not what somebody else wants for you.

My dealer is always running a $2k-$2500 credit on new bikes, wether toward the bike itself or merchandise, etc. Just part of their "deal", but I'm sure you pay for it in the long run!

Why not name the dealer?

Is it some super secret sale that only you know about?

I got a quality bike, that's a fact. But the accessories/gear I purchased since the bike is low quality, and some of the stuff is down right junk.

$275 HD chaps; buttons keep popping off = Junk.
$140 detachable chrome sideplates where the welds are rusting = Junk.
$300 detachable windshield where one clamp busted in half = Junk.
$150 HD brakelight boots where the zippers split apart in the middle = Junk

I could go on. Learned my lesson.

There's only one item that I would say is truly a quality product and that's the jacket I got for $475 worth of my "in-store credit". That jacket is tough as nails.

So when a dealer throws out a load of money towards in-store credit, it makes little difference to me. Start discounting the bike if you want my money. I do not want to be forced to purchase low quality swag.

Is that $2500 off of the MSRP or their "adjusted" price. I haven't seen anyone, even in todays market, offering $2500 off MSRP on a new model year bike. That's a hell fo a deal.
