A LOT of filings coming from the engine oil? I looked in my catch tray and it's littered with tiny flecks and furry filings. I would expect this from a new transmission from the gears marking in their wear patterns, but not an engine??? 12,000 km, third oil change, dino oil for first 7,000 km (changed out by HD at 2000) and HD synthetic for the last two... haven't even hit the hot weather yet...
You have a problem. Fury things could be tensioner pads and the metal, who knows but shoudn't be there. If you find this in the drain oil I'd hate to see what's in the filter pleats. Worth taking a look see. Trans are actually not all that dirty. Primary is the filthiest place on a Harley for oil contamination with chain, sprockets , starter teeth and clutch plates.

Yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyup heading up to the stealer in about 1/2 hr with my filter and oil I saved, and my filter cutter, have enough for a sample to send to a local oil analysis lab, so I will definitely get to the bottom of this
well after standing in front of the shop/service manager for an hour, he swears un and down nothing is wrong, looks normal to me... umm could be I'm seeing something that isn't there, but I have serviced my own rigs for years (granted this is my first H-D), but material in your oil is NEVER good, in excessive amounts.. so I have saved my filter, have enough oil for a sample, which I will date and keep bottled, coincidentally due to my sloth-like clean up tactics I still have the oil from my last service in a container, so I will also take a smaple and date... When next oil change comes around I will pull a samlpe right from the stream when it pours out and send all 3 in for analysis, see if particulates are increasing or decreasing..

its funny how they dont never see nothing wrong with a bike that is still under warranty. but when the warranty is gone they can find everything and say it needs fixed soon as possible

I did the 65K service on my bike a couple of weeks ago and had very little shavings on the drain plug magnet, since the 10K service. When I did the 5K, there was a bit more than what I have had since, but I didn't find it excessive. If it's still under warranty, go ahead and ride it till the next service and see what you have for shavings/filings then. If you still have remaining warranty and the engine goes, at least you are covered,

I agree with the primary being a place of filth due to the things mentioned ! I've had lots of harleys ,an never any metal in the crank case ever ,but they can't find it till it finally shows itself . I hope it shows before the warrenty expires . take it on a hard ride thru the country . #617849 born 8-2-07
