I like what others have said about pacing yourself. Last years trip I barrelled the first two days out to get where I haven't been. Then I slowed down on a secondary road for the next 3 days to get to UP Michigan, stopping along the way to take pictures or visit historic sites. Once I had completed the objective of the ride at Columbus, Ohio, I rode 2100 miles in four days to get back home.
The Ultra made it possible. Loved every mile of it. Just set the cruise control, turn up the music and let those miles pass under my saddle.

I like to ride early eating a breakfast bar, then stop for another breakfast around 10AM after the crowd at the restaurant has diminished. Go until mid-afternoon and get that nights stop established, then go check out the area's attractions. 350-500 miles is a good day. I enjoy it more if I remember it is about the journey, not the destination.
