Add me to the list of tinnitus sufferers. Used to compete in IASCA auto sound competitions and I paid for it with constant ringing in the ears. Going to see an audiologist to get fitted for some custom ear plugs to wear while riding because the wind noise aggravates the situation.
Like everyone else--got it--hear it everyday--wear ear plugs to keep from aggravating it. Live with it--there is nothing that can really be done and the other choice of hearing the ringing or not is no choice now.
I just yesterday, was fitted for some expensive moulded earplugs/phones. They will hook up to an iPod and let you dial your volume waaayyyyy down while blocking wind noise. I pick 'em up in a week.
Apparently, loud pipes are not the problem so much as the constant wind!!
I've had it since 1969, nothing you can do about it. But, with every thing else you have going on you might check and see if you changed any of your medications lately. One of my heart meds tripled the effect of the noise, had to give it up and go back to old med. So if you changed meds lately and the tinnitis just started this may be the cause.
Growing up around Trucks, and then driving trucks for 10 years plus all the work around pneumatic tools in the shop changing tires and such. plus loud music, cars, trucks and bikes. I have had tinnitus for years now and im only 35. I wear hearing protection any time I am involved with any loud activities now. Like others have said before there is no cure and you will get used to it. I have to leave a radio or tv on at night for background noise otherwise it drives me crazy.
Two decades of sirens has taken its toll on my hearing. At least the siren is in the grille now, and not directly over my head anymore. Tinnitus can be very annoying. Talk to your doctor. If you take scripts he may change some meds because they can exacerbate your tinnitus. Avoid aspirin, one of its side effects is transient tinnitus.
+1 on doublej74 leaving the TV or radio on. I use a small radio and 1 earphone bud every night tp get to sleep. The talk radio trucking show is better than the jet engine in my left ear everynight.
