I recommend a higher quality full face if you plan on wearing it more often such as Shoei or Arai, however I have never worn an ICON helmet. The old lady has one and loves it.
They feel heavier than most to me. I have Shoei laying around as an extra but I love my Suomy with my Suomy being the lightest of all helmets I own. Top three brands to me or Suomy, Shoei, and Arai. Its good to know there are a lot of people out there that wear full face, coming from nothing but sportbikes i thought i might be one of few.
Whatever yu buy...DO NOT BUY ONLINE!!!!! buy it at a local shop where you can try it on for proper fit. More expensive doesn't mean better.... some heads are round, some oval, some are eggheads. Try on several lids to get the best fit. that will save yer melon better than anything else!
I was wearing an Icon Mainframe FF helmet when I got rear-ended in November by a car doing 85+ mph. I landed on the back of my head at about 70 mph and that helmet definitely saved my bacon. It took a serious hit right dead-center on the back of the helmet and I got up and walked away.
I'd worn that helmet for about 3 yrs off and on (I have an HJC half helmet I wear in warmer weather) and I liked it.
I now have a Shoei X-Eleven which rates among the highest in evals I researched. The Shoei vents a little better in hot weather I'd say and is lighter, but the Icon was not a bad helmet (and it's half the price of the Shoei).
I've got an Icon Alliance SSR in flat black. It fits my head really nice, but as posted earlier - try one on before you buy...
My only complaint about the lid is when you're cruising with the visor up. It whistles a little. Quiet as a library when you close it though... very aerodynamic. Seems to vent pretty well IMO.
All in all, it's a good helmet and I'd buy one again.
I am not a fan of ICON after track riding. I would spend the money on a good Shoei, HJC, Arai, or AGV. ICON is a lower cost helmet. It's ok, but not great.
