Its been 90 deg F + and my oil temps have been in the high 250's (259 today after a highway run) Ain't that kinda high? I'm wondering if I should change my oil after that.
I'm thinkin the same Adacus... heat wave here in the Lower Mainland...eh?
I'm all freaked out that my oil is breaking down and I have no idea what temp the oil is getting but I think it sounds different. Thinking I might change it this weekend just to ease my nerves.
If your running a good synthetic oil, you'll be alright..I run that temperaure every day. On a long highspeed highway run, my oil gets close to 300* which is hot. check your gauge for accuracy as well.
I can't belive the oil temps these newer engines run! My "84" Fxrt has runs at 170-180 in the summer here in Michigan. But my friends "08" Fat Boy runs at 220-230, WTF?
This time of year I run at 275 on the slab and close to 300 in stop-and-go. Stock setup with synthetic. Red lights are a religious experience when it's over 110.
I will do an extra oil change this summer around 7500 miles because I've been doing more high temp riding than usual. It can't hurt.
Its not as hot on an average her for sure, but even on 90+ days when I checked my temp gauge in town riding it would sometimes be in the 250's for 1st K.
Then after stg1 at 1k the highest in town I remember was 240.
Now after cams this yr the highest has been 225-230 and that was in town, and that was while waiting 4-5 mins for a train..
On the road, the 1st K it was usually 220-230, after stg 1 215-225, and this yr after cam its 205-215
So the cams made a bigger difference in cooling her down than the stg1 did.
