COD, I see that 07DDreamHD only lives a couple hundred miles from where I live in East Texas. Maybe next Spring I can take a nice ride over there and thank him personally for helping you and Bill out. Meanwhile, I'll stay tuned for progress reports on the project.
New updates 12-19-09. See last few posts. Looking for rear signals and posts, and front rotor.
My wife works in a nursing home in activities. One of her residents, Bill, is missing a leg from the knee down and she found out that he lost it in a motorcycle crash. He is in his mid 40's.
He was riding in a group when a car in front of them tried to take a last second turn but ended up having to stop on the road. Bill ended up hitting a car trying to avoid the situation. Bill makes no excuses and knows the wreck was his fault.
Bill is scheduled to be in the home until he goes through therapy, etc. He knows my wife and I ride and they often talk about bikes and trips, etc. Bill is really missing riding. He even asked if we would take him along to the Carlisle Bike Fest two weekends ago. Well, we were riding there with a big group, so that was out. Bill has a great attitude. We picked him up a tee-shirt and a few other small things from the event. He was pretty appreciative.
He got his prosthetic leg not long ago and my wife found out that he is looking to get his bike back together and ride again. Bill asked if I would be able to help him find parts for his ride. I don't think he is in the financial position to purchase all new parts, but he is trying.
He has a 2002 Night Train and basically needs all parts for the front end, forks, lights, bars, mirrors, I think you get the point - including a tank for a fuel injected model. I don't know too much about night trains, but I wanted to see if I could help him out by getting him started with anything I could find for him.
Let me know if you have any parts and what you want for them. I can give Bill a list of parts and let him decide from there. I dont know if he has it, but I was thinking a shop manual for his bike would be a good start. And if Bill is going to follow through, I am planning on offering to wrench on his ride for him if he wants help.
Dude, what you're doing is a noble deed;To want to help someone you barely know like this is great. You will be rewarded 10 times over.Hell,I didn't even know people like you still exist!!!

Thanks Tex. Would be cool to meet some of the guys. You never know, some time soon, a guy may ride past one of you and wave - and it might be Bill giving a wave of gratitude wondering if the guy going the other way is a biker that reach into his heart and helped get him rolling again.

Hey investor, thank you for the kind words. Truth be told, I'm not sure which one of us is getting more out of this right now, Bill or me.
You know how you feel when you make plans for a vacation or something, and the date is not near, but you can't stop thinking about it all the time until it comes!!!! Well, I just keep running it through my head and wondering what it will feel like the day Bill is able to throw his leg over this thing and lead us out on a ride.
I'd convince him to trade it or sell it and get a trike or convert it into one. That would be cool, a Nighster Trike!
That would be cool. I did bring it up at first, but he wants to ride his bike, his way. Gotta commend him for that. And, he has a lot of physical work to do to be able to get on the bike. If he had an easy way out, like just plopping on a trike, he may not work as hard at his theropy. If it don't work out, he could always go that route though.
With so many on here being off work for the holidays, I figured I would bump this up to see if anyone has any leads on a front rotor or rear turn signals w/posts. Thank guys.
I traveled this morning and brought Bill's bike to my house so I could work on it as I am able to.
Today, after a test fit of the new tank from Dream, I was then able to swith out the fuel pump.
Where we stand right now is:
New front wheel from Dream is cleaned and will be put on when Bill is able to purchase tires. Front fender from Dream will go on after I clean the bike all up.
A fellow forum member has offered front signals and mounts and will be sending them after he has time to remove them from a bike.
I have some wiring to fix under the rear fender for the signals and tailight.
Still looking for: a front rotor and rear turn signals with posts.
I should have a few pics to post in the next few days.
Thanks to all you guys for following this.
