I'll probably have the front turn signals if those are still needed (with the fork clamps). If you guys are near, we would love to come help your friend pick up the pieces (and bolt them on).

It's awesome to see a community pull together for a fellow biker.

When I met Bill, it was by chance that I learned how he was injured. I volunteered at the home after my wife told me about him and how he lost his leg. I made it a point to get into conversations with him. I could tell that he was pretty down. I found out that he lost his job, due to the accident, and he talked about how hard it was going to be to get his bike back together. He actually talked more about his bike, than his leg.

I got the idea from conversations that no, he did not have insurance, but I did not specifically ask. I can assure you this, he, nor I, are in no way scamming the good people of this forum to collect parts or just get a bike back together for nothing. I am trying the best I can to manage this rebuild situation so that no one is taken advantage of in any way.

This guy not having insurance and wrecking his bike does not make it anyone else’s problem. My desire to help him get his bike back together is more about the healing he needs mentally to move on after losing his leg. I can tell you that I have learned quite a bit about him since I met him. Due to his medical expenses, he has lost just about everything he had. And I get the vibe that he did not have a lot to lose to begin with. So losing his leg, and his bike, was just about everything to him. Perhaps getting his bike back together will be something positive enough in his life that will carry over and allow him to get his entire life back into order someday.

Anyone can argue that maybe this effort is not the best use for the resources being given and offered. But I am a true believer in the following philosophy; we all live in our own little worlds – and sometimes we all come across people that need help in their world – and if we can have a positive effect to this situation, it can make the world as a whole an even better place.

I am in no way assuming that your question was intended to imply that you think “hey look, this guy had no insurance, it is his problem”. You can judge this situation however you want. I am simply letting you know why I got this started. And to take a quote from one of my favorite movies, “Enough with the negative waves Moriarty!”

Yep, Saturday will be the first build day. Bill seems very excited. I am picking him up at the home and taking him along.

Thank you everyone for your interest and support!

Hey Phat, thanks for the offer. I know we still need rear signals, and I think we might need the front. I will now for sure after Saturday. The frontend that Rickb sent us is not setup for the signals on the forks, but I would think we can transfer Bill's old ones with no problems. If we do need them due to damage, I will let you know.

We are in snowing, cold-f'n-wind-blowing central Pa. (man is it shitty out right now!) Your from Texas, right? If you get a flight into Pittsburgh and can catch a jump plane to State College by 9 am Saturday morning, let me know and I'll pick you up at the airport!

Thanks again Phat.

Tiger, thank you for the offer.

I think Bills seat is tore, but as I remember, it is not too bad. And I don't remember what seat he has on it and I surely don't know if he has a preference. On Saturday, if I see issues with the seat, I will mention to Bill that some seats are available and see what he says and then I will let you know.

This is probably a good time to mention to everyone something that I just realized. Bill has not asked me for one thing for his bike. He has not asked what guys have offered up. I think he is in kind of a daze when I call him and say stuff like "Hey Bill, just wanted to let you know that 'so and so' came through with a fender, or levers..." Or whatever. He is just blown away and tells me how he can't believe guys he don't even know are helping him out like this.

Thanks again Tiger.

I was trying not to be defensive. And I totally agree that it was a valid question that guys were probably wondering about. And yeah, I would hope someone has my back someday.
