Default Sundance, Wyoming Should Re-think Policies

"Wyoming Wednesday" is a long-standing tradition at the Sturgis rally. You would go to Devils Tower, then to Hulett for what they proudly call "biker freedom the way it used to be". In other words, as long as nobody got hurt the cops would pretty much look the other way--or, they would look, too, if the sight was interesting enough. Bikers roll into town and spend lots of cash on bottled water, food and other things sold by the local high school bands, senior citizens groups, food pantries and the like.

It appears that the slogan is now just something they print on t-shirts. Hulett cracked down on any form of nudity several years back, so the word spread that Sundance was a better place to go. At yesterday's burnout contest, I personally heard the cops tell one of the people in charge that there would be "zero tolerence". After the cop left I asked the manager what that was all about, and he said that several years ago, the wet t-shirt contest quickly became a no-tshirt contest and one of the contestants turned around and faced the booth where the local high school band was selling bottled water, so they decided the best idea was to use the cops to strictly enforce the law.

I get it, high school kids don't need to see that. But lets face it, in a town of about 1000 people, EVERYBODY knows what it's all about and if you don't want to see it, DONT GO DOWNTOWN. Or...

Instead, how about closing the booths down early? The contests didn't start till 4pm and by that time the only thing being bought is beer.

Instead, put a backdrop on the stage so that the booths behind the stage wouldn't be "exposed"?

This is a huge moneymaker for a small town, and if they don't want to kill it they need to find a way to keep the locals happy without involving the cops.

[edit: I just copied the Sundance Chamber of Commerce on the above]

I remember one time at band camp...................

If the residents think their offspring haven't seen bare ***** they should ride the band bus home some night from an out of town football game. Hell, I'm 72 and even back in my day we looked forward to away games and about all you could hear on the way home was heavy breathing and zippers.

Yeah, I can imagine the trauma those high school kids must have experienced.

you think riding home on the band bus got a little wild. You should go on a two week trip with the debate team.....Learned almost everything I know on debate trips hahaha.

How do you think Buffalo Chip came to be???

Buffalo Chip is what downtown, used to was, when I first started going to Sturgis.
The tab for the LEOs got TOO BIG, so, move it to private property, and YOU pay for the security, or lack thereof.
Plus, they have turned downtown into a Vegas. Bring the kids, the dog, and wander aimlessly thru the crowd, of T shirt vendors.
NOT that there is anything wrong with that. Jus' sayin'.

Now they fine ya, for bare breasts. TMK, you can still get by with 'body paint', it's opaque. Buddy's wife, got a ticket out there couple years back, for wearing a fishnet top while walking the 'beat'. Evidentally, NOT opaque, enough. Momma has worn lace tops out there, never got hassled. LEOs STARED, but they didn't ticket her.

There's like 3 rally's a year right here where I live. Anything goes, privete property, no law, cept ours. Only 3 or 4000 people. Hellofva time!! saves me 3 or 4000 $ each year just to stay here. Buffalo Chip, been there, done that!!! And all bikers owe it to yourself to be there atleast once. If you live close. every year. But rules and regulations, "the man" makes don't sit well with me. Even Lil' Sturgis has turned into crap. I'll just hang here and party the way our forfathers intended a motorcycle rally to be.
If your in Sturgis, party your *** off, wish I was there, but I'm here!!!!!!!!!!!

Bodypaint, legal here !!!!!

We were at the burn out / wet t-shirt contest in 05 and 06. The local feds had no problem with the gals participating. Yes they did bare it all. I guess things have changed in WY

So you asked the chamber of commerce to put the pressure on the town to stop enforcing the law on their city streets? Good thinking...
I was there this year (and every year for about the last 20 or so) and it wasn't any different than any other year. The cops were exactly the same as they always are. They have always tried to enforce the no-nipple thing and generally are pretty easy going and good humored. Every year you hear the same bs that they are shutting it all down but that's not the case.
Call them bible-thumpers, prudes or whatever but I wonder how many communities are allowing wet t-shirt contests on a raised platform in the middle of a public street in their towns?
Not sure what you expect them to allow but my thought is support what they do and maybe it will continue.
