Yep , get them even when going for a short ride , just
haven't turned around yet .
I think it just comes from hearing about all the wrecks
of other riders .
15 years ago I had my wife along for what was to be a "work"/play few days...I fly light jets and larger turboprops for corporations on a contract basis since I "retired' from doing same for one company for lifetime. We are taxiing out for departure and she sticks her head up front and says she wants to get off...I had been married long enough to know that wasn't gonna change and no point in asking why...taxi back, stop momentarily with engines running..she bails...off I go. Get back and I asked what happened and she says I was convinced there would be a crash. I said thanks for letting ME go.
I have had those feelings...pilots rely on them when it doesn't feel right it isn't
Follow your gut. It's usually right. No shame in that. Wish I would have done the same a time or two.
Freaky story time:
Christmas morning 2005, I stop off at some friend's house after visiting some Vets at the VA Hospital.
Really sweet lab pup running around loving everybody. The dog gets one look at me and starts growling and barking his head off!
The pup is not looking straight at me more just over my right shoulder. I leave the room and he calms down. I come back and the dog goes bananas again looking over my shoulder but like before there is no one behind me.
I had just played with this cute little mutt a few weeks prior and we both had a great time.
Every time I get near the pooch he goes off for the rest of the time I was there.
I jump on my '05 RKC to head home and get taken out by some dude in a hurry in a Jetta.
Superstition, bad juju, common sense, hair stand on end, funny feeling--I listen too. Sometimes your brain just takes care of you without explaining why!
My challenge, very, very rare but it has happened, is when I get the sudden feeling that I don't REALLY know how to ride. Usually at a transition point of some kind in the ride where I can get a momentary feeling that I don't know what to do next. Lucky it passes almost instantly but the couple of times it happened was pretty strange.
Nice to see other people get the same feeling I get at the start of a long ride. I usually keep going and get over the feeling and usually I'm glad I did. I was starting to think I was starting to have some homebody syndrome.
Sometimes I think the excitement of starting a long ride will cause that feeling. However, I've learned that you should always listen when god speaks strongly to you.
Thanks for the responses, for a while this morning I thought I was losing it or something. I spent most of my life in the military and made it thru a few incidents on gut feeling or from the help of God giving me a hint on which path to take. It's just reassuring to know others have had that feeling and that I'm not just getting older and losing my nerve. Oh well on to another day and another ride.

Late in the thread. I have a job that if you let the heebie jeebies get to you it will end a career. Seen it happen to a few others. They get convinced that the next time will kill them or their luck has ran out. They usually retire or find a different job. There have been times when I feel that way about something I am doing be it work or play. I go anyway and just take care of business and trust my skills. Sometimes I wear more safety gear or just take an extra moment to get focused.
