Hello all, I have a new Harley with the stock windshield and it so happens that my height 5ft 8 is not helping, my line of shight is at the very top and makes it distorted. Has anyone else been in this situation? Thanks again Owen
Cut the windshield about 1 1/2 to 2" below your line of sight.
1. Make a template using poster board or similar material by marking the arc of the windshield, and cutting the board. This will let you establish the proper arc for the cut.
2. Mask off the area where you want the cut to be on both sides of the shield. Use about three layers of tape to insure that you do not cause scratches.
3. Place the template on the windshield about 1/4" higher than you want the final height to be. Mark around the template.
4. Use a jig saw to make the rough cut which will be 1/4" high.
5. Use a belt sander to get the shield all even and at the exact height you want it. Be careful not to cause melting.
6. Use very fine sand paper to finish the edge. It will look just like it came from the factory.
7. Remove the tape, clean the windshield and go ride.
Alternative: Go to a glass shop and let them cut it for you. Cost should be about 15.00.
I have read on here that you want the top of the wind sheild at just about eye level, I have noticed the distortion from the edge a little bit on my new road king, although it is not to bad I am 5'11". Good Luck
I've always ridden with a windshield I can comfortably look over, not through. Still blocks the air and visibility is better, especially in rain. I always just bought the low windshield from Harley. Lots of nice ones on Ebay too.
it didnt really matter to me, i had a tall one on my glide and had no problems, i had to cut 3 inches off to get it in my trailer, and i like it just as well, they are realitivly cheap so you can experiment with out spending a wad, and there are several posts that explains how to cut them down!! good luck!!
I bought a shorter windshield on ebay to give me the wind in the face experience and to avoid looking at the edge of the windshield. I love it for around town cruising. That said, I still put the stock windshield back on for big ride days or days with a chance of rain etc.
