I ran into a buddy of mine today, a guy who has been a determined half-helmet wearer for years (as long as I've known him). Today, he rides up to a local watering hole wearing a shiny new full-face helmet. Before I could even ask what's going on, he pulls the helmet off and I see a serious slash on his upper left cheek. He told me that yesterday he was riding along an otherwise deserted stretch of road and some unseen, unknown object hit him in the face, and by the time he realized he was injured the blood was dripping down off his jawbone (bet that looked wild!). He rode on to one of those walk-in medical clinics and got 6 stitches to close the cut. Next stop was a local CycleGear shop, where he bought the FF. Says he won't ride in anything less it from now on...
Glad he is OK other than the stitches. Good thing he didnt lose control.
I have a FF but usually only wear it when its cold. I did have a small bee fly right up my nose the other day. A FF would have avoided that. The jury is still out for me I guess.

I would not ride in anything less than a full face helmet comming from the off road arena, But to each his own and you may ride for years with no helmet at and get away with it. So! Do you feel lucky?
I've been pelted by bees, large flying bugs, rocks, grit, stung in the ear, just about everything. Never would I wear a full face helmet. All the power to your friend but that ain't my bag no matter how many times I get hit.
Non approved DOT doo-rag for me. Not even that half the time. I like the wind in the face and the visceral experience. I'll sell my bike before I'd wear one of those things. Maybe for a spacewalk or something...
since im a noob i had my first encounter with what i think was a june bug yesterday as it nailed me on my cheek. that mudderfrudder stung! Left a mark too!. I must be a little off though because I was laughing to myself about it and had thoughts like pass the texas pete and anyone got any napkins. A piece of metal would be nasty though. Ill keep my hh for now.
Just way too hot for me to ride with a FF helmet here MOST of the time!---- But the wife will not use anything else.
Same here in SE Louisiana. I've got a FF, wear it sometimes.
I'm still wondering what hit the guy -- a big bug (there are plenty of those around here) probably would leave a bruise, this looked like a knife cut. He swears there was no other traffic to kick up debris, so it's just a mystery,
I used to use a 3/4 helmet but I switched to the FF this year. I did spend the money to get a carbon fiber helmet and the chin piece moves up so when I am at a stop light or cruising through town, it is not as hot. I like the extra protection that the full face gives me and I also noticed an added benefit of wind noise reduction at 70+
