Thank You for your service and welcome to the forum. From what I read, PTSD is a real tough one to deal with. I wish you the best in recovering from what you went through. It sounds like you got hooked an hooked bad on the world of Harley Davidson motorcycles. I sure did. I went to the dealer for months and researched the hell out of the bikes.

I ended up getting the bike out of the local paper, but have found numerous deals for friends on Craigslist. It is good to know the price range on particular models and years. It is possible get a late 90's or even early 2000's Dyna for under $10. I found a 2000 FXDX for my little brother that was unloved by it's third owner for $6K!!! But I was hitting Craigslist almost hourly for weeks and when that one came up, I was all over it. I was the first caller and the guy got numerous calls, from even out of state. So timing is of the essence too. If you've got a good down payment, no reason you can't get a loan from a variety of sources.

Some examples here in SoCal. You don't even have to spend $10K.... A lot of nice, low mileage and well cared for HD's.

No problemo getting a loan for a used bike for me, my ex-girlfriend, nor my brother. As long as the bike is worth what the KBB or Kelly Blue Book says, then the Credit Union or Bank usually doesn't care whether it's new or not. While some might have a slightly higher rate for a used bike, the Credit Union I go to, has the same rate for both.

I'm glad I got mine used. With only 2,400 miles on it, I got it for half of what the original owner paid for it back in 2003 (when they were all overpaying for the 100th Anniversary bikes).

Not sure where you are in Iowa, but I got my bike at Waukon Harley and my credit sucks. They found me a good deal on financing and took care of me really well. Take a look there.

The Base KBB value of that bike is $9440. All the chrome doo-dads and stuff are only worth money if you want them, same for the bars, cables, etc...

It's a lot closer price to value than your previous choice, but I'd talk em down a bit.
