I have a new 06 Ultra. I have rode it 50 miles so far. I traded my 03 Wing. My question is this. It feels as though i'm starting out in 2nd gear. It really is in first gear, just feels like 2nd. Is it me because I rode the Wing for 3 years? Am I not doing something right? Once the darn rain stops I'll be able to get out more.
The Harley's do seem to have a little taller gear in 1st place than the metric bikes. But they also, to me anyways, have a smoother clutch that's easier to feather when needed. A few miles more and you'll be used to it I think. Most likely everything's OK.
Heya Rick, welcome to the forums from northern VA. I have to ask, why does it feel like you're starting out in second, is it because of lack of power or because you can go faster in first than what you're used to?
Not sure if it is lugging...might just seem that way. I know for the longest time I always felt like I was lugging the engine because it didn't rev as high or as quickly as my Ducati and that's what I was used to. I don't know about the shuddering (do know what you're talking about though just not what's causing it).
Gotta ask a stupid question...you sure you're in first?
Prolly just a taller gear than you're used to. A few more r's during take-off should alleviate the problem. I have to remind myself of that occasionally also.
