My dad once tightened an oil filter on an oldsmobile so tight that, after crushing it with an oil filter wrench, I had to drive a screwdriver through it and torque it off that way...
Could be some large dude at the factory that was told the last one he did was "a little loose".
Trying to do a little clutch adjustment and it feels like they used an impact to tighten the the locking nut, wtf!
its so tight I can turn the whole assembly while its in gear, any tips?
::EDIT::
Sorry, I got it with the hammer.
Can be a PITA. It actually has a tendency to self-tighten due to the spinning of the clutch hub assembly and clutch pack. Especially if the clutch is not adjusted correctly (space between the end of the clutch rod and the adjusting screw which the locking nut keeps from spinning out).
I have had no problem putting a dab of anti-seize on the back of the locking nut and the clutch adjusting screw plate in order to break it free later for adjustment. I just make sure I don't put the anti-seize on the threads though.

I've had to do this method several times in the past!!
