Car slams on brakes, etc...big rig slows down, now big rig has to pick up speed again to get back to speed limit.
That may take 2 miles to do, in that time a car doing 75 could rear-end you in that first 1/2 mile of regaining speed.
I'm pretty good with reading comprehension, knew what he was conveying, but he used the original posters, 30 seconds to pass with his argument and I'm saying that there was no excuse for that trucker to cut the guy off and risk the guys life to save that time and gas.
I have been a truck driver for 29 years. A few months back I had to back another drivers truck for him. He was unable to do it himself. He was in front of me in line to off load and I was tired of waiting on him. In all my years of driving the only accident I have had was I backed into a fence post out in the middle of a field on a dark night. I still don't know why it was even there. You guys are the only ones that know now so hush up. Down here in San Diego truck drivers are the worst. Most come from over the border that are real bad. But there are some that just can't drive. Truck drivers used to be held up on a pedestal for being courteous drivers. Now days it's all .ucked up.

Did I say anything about cutting someone off?????
I think I said if there was a opening I would take it. Let me add to that "a safe opening".
I'm a Professional Truck Driver, I do this for a living
and I don't do things such as risk someones life to save fuel.
Funny what different people read into or embellish what someone says.

Lindsey, here's your quote:

Here's the original posters quote...the one that was cut off:

The thing I find the most frightening is one of these truck drivers on a cell phone! YIKES!!
What embellishment is there...the original poster was cut off by a trucker, you said that 30 seconds meant more gas and more time.
Let me quess, Swift, JB Hunt, Crete, Shnieder, New England, Bison? If yes to any of these then I can fully understand.
You see this more often with company drivers. Many times they don't have the proper training and experience to be on the road period. Now owner ops are a different story. It is their insurance and their asses on the line. You can also put some of the blame on the new hours of service regs and the split speed limits that you see in some states.
Yeap been running 18+ wheels for a number of years now. I don't usually get cut off my fellow steering wheel holders. Now bikes and 4 wheelers are another story. It takes me a few miles to get up to highway speed and it takes me a good distance to come down from highway speed. Don't cut infront of a truck with hopes that they will back down and give you distance. Just yesterday I had a road king pull in front of me so close that I could not hardly see his head past the hood of the 379 Pete that I run. This wat at 70 mph on the interstate.
I think a lot of the folks that are running up to block lane changes by the big trucks have gotten fed up with being caught up in the slow races that take place when traffic is moving at 70-75 mph and there are 2 60 mph trucks running along for 5 miles side by side.
I go back and forth from FL to OH a lot up I-65 and I love when I am doing 70-75 in a 65 and a 18 wheeler rides my *** in the fast lane. I move over and he blows past me like I was standing still. It is even better when they do this and it's pouring rain and you can't see.
OR...
The gravel truck that is dropping **** all over the road and when you change lanes to get around them (far enough out that IF they looked they would have seen you) then they move right back in front of you kicking more **** onto you. Thanks!!!
I understand that cagers are horrible and when stuck in traffic I let them in when they need over, but when guys do this, I really don't care if they have to slow down because they were cut off and use more gas, or loose time. Next time look and if you are clear, then change lanes or better yet stop riding people's ***'s.
