Default Good News.....Bad News

Its been about a month since I posted last, some of you might remember I was about to ride my 1 week, 600 mile old Street Bob from Phoenix back home to Austin Texas and attend the ROT Rally after a 6 year hiatus from all things 2 wheeled. Well sir, the good news. The trip was a freakin dream come true. The first day I made it from Phoenix to just outside El Paso and spent the night after about 475 miles. The next morning I gassed her up and spent another glorious day on the road. Stopped for gas, food, a stretch, a phone call or two, no hurry. Made it home to the wife about dusk, about 600 miles. FELT GREAT!! Didnt think the 49 year old bones and butt would've taken things so well. Impressed the hell out of myself, my wife AND my stepdaughter. Went and hung out at the ROT Rally site and took my stepdaughter on the 10 mile world record motorcycle parade to downtown Austin where my wife joined us, what a blast! The next day, Saturday the 3rd, I went back to the rally site just to hang around a bit. It got a little hot and sunny, and I had just about all the sun I could handle the last couple weeks prior, so I thought I would head on home and wait till later to come back and see the Joan Jett and Paul Rodgers concert. When I left the site I was in the middle of about 20 or so bikes leaving at the same time. Everything was just ducky and we were all slowing down to make the upcoming turn. That is, everyone except the rider right behind me. Thats the bad news. His left side hiway peg slammed into my rear pipe and his tire turned into my air cleaner. The next milliseconds consisted of my watching him, his girlfriend, and his bike tumbling down the road at about 50 mph right behind me. And I was completely out of control. My first thought while being pushed back into the passenger pillion and my left hand ripped from the handlebar was of course "Damn, I'm goin down" But as quick as all of this was happening I remember thinking distincly "I am NOT putting down my brand new bike!!" I grabbed the bar and literally fought that beast for a quarter mile till I pulled her over and laid her on the kickstand. After sitting there a few seconds and giving thanks, I called 911 from my cell phone and along with the 15 or so other people who had called, the rider and his gf were soon in an ambulance (they are both going to be ok, nothing broken) his bike was on a trailer and I was heading home. Didnt see too much physical damage to my Dyna, the rear pipe pushed forward a little, and a tire scuff on the football, but when I took off I noticed the front tire doing a little wobbly dance. CRAP! Sooo.... the 2 week old bike is in the shop for who knows how long and I am back in a cage. But Im fine, I feel great knowing my senses still work good enough to get me out of something like that. Anyway, I'll keep ya'll posted, sorry this was so long a post.

Stinks you're new bike got some damage but my god you're still one lucky guy! You COULD be badly hurt or worse! I'm sure your bike will be as good as new when they're done with it. A bike can be fixed but not always a body ... you must have had someone watching over you pal!

You are SO lucky! Glad to hear you're o.k. Your bad news about the bike is still good news - could have been so much worse and you didn't get hurt.

The good news far outweighs the bad news. And just think, you've got a helluva story to tell for years to come.

Sounds like good news and BETTER news (you didn't go down!). Glad to hear you had a great time, and that everyone and everything will be ok.

Cheers!

Great ending to a ride gone bad.

Glad you are OK. The bike can be fixed, soon I hope.
