Don't worry, That dealer most likely won't be there too much longer!
Trust me....He aint going anywhere. He actually owns the business outright with the building and property. He has been there for ever with his son and wife working the business with him. Some days I have seen him literally kick people out of his store if he felt they were wasting his time, while other days he can be as nice as can be and give you his shirt right off of his back. Go figure.....
My house is about halfway between NewRoc and Reggie Pink. I go to both places, although I have to say the service department at Reggie Pink is just outstanding, and the facility is the best I have seen. I didn't buy my bike from either dealer, but every time I've been in, at both places, people have bent over backwards to be accomodating and helpful. I think we're lucky to have two top-notch dealers in this area. I can't imagine anyone who wants to stay in business acting like that guy did. He must be under a lot of pressure, or else he's just not made of the right stuff for retail work.
NewRoc has great hours, btw. They're open on Sundays and late on Thursdays. I was there two Sundays ago for one of their Sunday gathering things. Free hot dogs and hamburgers and sodas and so forth. The store fully staffed and helpful people all over the place. The owner was working the crowd, and someone told me he is at every event, out there talking to people etc. That's the way to build a business.
Thats Just how I feel about Reggie Pink and NewRoc took the words right otta my head
There are 5 other HD dealers on Long Island. Im sure if you rode to NewRoc to buy the bike, you can ride to one of them for service and they will be greatly appreciative.
There is a dealer in Oakdale, I beleve thats kinda close to you. I wouldn't bring my bike to a dealer that didn't want my buisness even if HD forced him to. No telling what they might and might not do.

Thats not the point...his over all attitude and the fact that he is punishing me because of where i purchased the bike, is the problem.
FYI, i called Oakdale as soon as i got home from the other *******, took the bike there today where it was promptly serviced and returned to me in a timely fashion!
I'll second the Reggie Pink recommendations. Anthony is the service manager & is great to work with & he will go out of his way to help. Dave handles the service desk & the repair techs there are excellent. Also Chuck in parts is always ready to help. Everyone there is friendly & willing to help. And Chico always cleans the serviced bikes & does a great job. when you get your bike back from service it's ready to show!

After about three routine visits, all of those guys remembered my name and welcome me by name when I drop in. That's impressive.
I had a question the other day while I was working on my bike in my garage, and after exhausting the info in the service manual, I called Reggie Pink (on a Saturday) and asked for David. He listened to the question, remembered some unique things about my bike, and was able to tell me exactly what I needed to know. Just a simple kindness, but it involved knowing the customer, knowing his bike, and being willing to take time on a busy day to help a guy out, for no pay and nothing but just basic decency.
It used to be like that back years ago when I was involved in the auto racing world. People were true enthusiasts, and they enjoyed what they did and really took pleasure in helping others out, sharing knowledge, just plain having fun and enjoying the machines. There isn't much of that left in this world, and to find it so solidly in place so close to such a cynical city as NY, well, it's very gratifying.
I echo everyone's responses about how ridiculous that dealer is. I purchased my bike from Fritz in Stamford. I did my first service up there as I worked nearby. But I live closer to NewRoc and used them for my 5000 miles and inspection. I also stop by Reggie Pink once in awhile. All cool dealers and no bad will. I would give my business to any of them.

I agree, there is a much broader issue here than just getting the bike serviced!
Times are tough and some dealers are discounting in order to keep cash flow; others would rather lay employees off than discount and resent other dealers that do discount!
Not servicing your bike because you bought it from a discounter is almost like a back door attempt to price fixing! My local H-D dealer just posted a sign that states that they will no longer install any parts not purchased from them. He sites liability; however, I believe that this is a direct attempt to curb discount internet parts purchases!
