As stated, anything made in the last couple years runs fine, as long as it runs Winders. The pgm itself does not consume a lot of CPU/memory to run.

Anything will work, really. If you do not mind the boot-up time, you could go into the mHz, which are about a decade outdated.

Find anything above 1GHz and 256M memory and you are fine. And anything that has embedded wireless (Centrino) will absolutely work fine.

Very low really, But I wouldn't go any lower than a PIII

Pentium class 133 mhz or better
Win 2000/ME/XP 128 meg of ram
Display 800 x 600 1024 x 768 is recommended
Free hard drive space 10 mb
Serial Port with DB9 connector. this requirement can be done with a usb to serial adapter. Around $15.

I have one for sale. PM me and I will give you the details.

I'd add a USB connector to the above. The current software will actually run on Windows 98 SE, but I'd shoot for a machine that could handle 2000 or XP. PowerCommander may release a new version one day that won't run on 98/ME.

Definitely has to be at least Win98SE. My laptop had Win 98 and it wouldn't run so I upgraded it to Win2000Pro and all is good.

Even a P75 will run 98, as long as it has at least 64M RAM and a > 10G hard drive. But you can much better machines than that for $100. Anything less than a 233 is worth less than $50 IMO.

You can check eBay, there are hundreds and hundreds of laptops on there. But do not pay for any used model below 1GHz that is more than $300. Dell has run specials on new laptops for 450-500.

Late for work, didn't read all the replies..sorry.

If yer looking for a laptop for your shop/garage I would definatly reccomend the Panasonic Toughbook. Steel casing lets the thing drop from something crazy like 3 - 4 meters without damage. We use 'em in our shop and on service calls. If they can live thru the bar crowd (specially the "helpful" drunks "here let me hold this for...whoops sorry") they should take anything a garage is going to throw at 'em. We bought all of ours off EBay and I think they ran something like $300 a pop, maybe less.
