Had a collision with a deer as I was headed to work at 5 in the morning about 2 weeks ago. Fortuneatly I was only doing about 40 mph on a back road, but ended up in the hospital for a week with 4 broken ribs and a shattered right shoulder blade. When I struck the deer, it yanked the handlebars to the left which slammed the bike down on its right side. I only slid for about 30-40 feet, so no real road rash other than the top of my left thumb. Helmet (half helmet) got ground up some, but never came off and saved my head for sure. I was also amazed that the bike wasn't tore up other than the crash bars and a few cosmetic items.
What really sucks is that I'm gonna miss out on deer season so i can fully recover. Go figure. I also have a new respect for pain...going down really hurts, but I'm counting my blessings because it could have been way worse. Also, my girlfriend was about a minute behind me in her car, so I didn't have to sit there long for help to arrive. Ambulance ride sure hurt though. Not comfortable at all.
Glad your ok. Having taken many deer in my life I always wonder if they are going to one day get even with me when I'm out on the bike. Hope you mend soon.
They are out there. Be careful.
It's bow season and I'm tryin' to do my part to make our roads safer.
Glad to hear you're ok. When's your deer season down there? (Ours is 3rd week of November) Sitting in a stand wouldn't be too hard on you . .??
Have a good one,
Dave
Our muzzle loading season actually comes in on haloween this year. It lasts the first 2 weeks of Nov, then general firearms season comes in until the 1st week in Jan. Sitting in a stand wouldn't be too hard until I dropped the hammer. Don't think my shoulder will be totally healed yet. Man it's gonna hurt me more to have to sit it out this year. Poetic justice for the deer I guess.
