There are upgrades and there are style changes. Any change you make that gives you a bike that works better for your style of riding in an upgrade for you (the same change may not be for someone else).
Yes my Vulcan 1500A is very comparable to some Dynas or Softails. For traveling and grocery getting the Ultra was an Upgrade.
If I was racing through the twistys a Sportster would have been an upgrade and a CBR or GSXR would have been an upgrade from that.
I learned couple yrs ago if I've had several cocktails that the fingers can type faster than the brain can think.
Now I just fix one good one, and I save the other 1/2 of the 5th for later.
WE wouldnt have to UPGRADE if HARLEY would just STOP CHOKING UP THERE FACTORY ENGINES AND LET THEM BREATH!!!
Well, you can blame the EPA for a lot of this chit. All the while chineese and American factories, semis, beater cars, etc are spewing out all kinds of wonderful junk.
No upgrading here, started in '85 on a bigtwin FX, and kept riding bigtwin FX's, until the "great recession" went and shat on me. When the time is right, I will get another bigtwin FX (non CVO of course, that would be upgrading )
going from metric to harley is an upgrade, going from one harley model to another harley model is adjusting your bike to suit your needs and lifestyle at that given time.
i ride a sportster does that make me any more or less of a rider? not taking the kickstart only into consideration cause i was recently told that apparently having that configuration makes me an "real biker". no it dont, its just a harley and for now it suits me when i add a dyna to the stable i nthe spring i wotn be upgradign just gettign another bike simple as that
I agree with the original poster. I've had enough of the interminable, boring arguments about "my bike is cooler than your bike" et al. I've evern had it with folks arguing about Harley's VS metrics. I've had it with smack talk of any kind, really.
I'm serious here. Fact is that a guy on a Ninja is gonna die same as you or me if some loser on a cell phone in an Escalade runs him down at a stoplight, right? I ride a Superglide, you ride a KZ1000, but we both have lives and wives and both love bacon and pizza, (not together though, even I think that's sick).
Anyway, I agree with the guy. Enough. Let's finally all get along, huh?

I have no idea what he was trying to say. I thought the OP was coming down on "upgrading" whatever that means. I've been an old school hotrodder most of my life. That's what we do, upgrade our ride, on a budget, in our spare time. What's wrong with that?
After your buzz has worn off you will realize there just Aint no Co that could build a bike to please everyone. The same goes for planes trains and automobiles, even women.
