Like several previously posted comments, the discount they are offering you for an '08 isn't hardly enough considering the improvements made to the bike since then and the fact that it's a buyers market right now. When looking at the amount of $$$ you will be spending, what ever the discount, get the model you truly desire. On the long run, you will be glad you did.

Dont get stuck on one dealer.Better to shop around when making a big purchase like this.
Another thing to consider is what the dealer(s) charging for the set up fee. This will vary dealer to dealer and is nogotiable sometimes.

Trust me, get what you want even if you have to wait for it.

As for the removable windshield, I have a RKC and I love the look and feel of the bike without the windshield and ride without it as much as I can. But I live in NYC and do a lot of day loops out of the city on mountain and river roads. But when I travel the slab or am going for more than two days I put on the windshield. My guess is if you're mainly going to be doing distance touring you'll use the windshield.

the Road King is one of my favorite bikes but I love a Standard too. Here is my take on it having an 07 Standard: I love my bike. period. BUT, I do like
the changes on the 09's & 10's a lot. They are flat out better bikes in my opinion. Take both for extended rides and you will feel the difference the new frame, wider tire, redesigned exhaust make. Then make the decision. If you can keep the $$$ part out of your mind and get the bike you really want I think you will be happier for it.

I'm speaking for my hubby. When he bought his ElectraGlide, I was surprised because I had thought if he traded in his previous bike it would be for a Road king because that is what he had talked about quite often. A year later, he traded the E-Glide in for a 2010 Road King. Turns out, he admitted he bought the E-Glide because he wanted a touring bike (he had a Night Train) but at the time he hated all the colors the RK came in, and he loved the special Real Flames paint job on the E-Glide sitting on the dealer floor. But he ended up not liking a fairing, prefering to be able to have a windshield that could be taken off for around town riding, but a touring bike for longer trips. When he spotted the bright Red with Black accents in the RK that came out for 2010, he said "THAT'S my bike" and so he did a trade. Now that he has ridden it for about 3,000 miles he says that not only does he like the looks of the bike better, the windshield better than the fairing, but just feels that he's riding a motorcycle, not a couch. Not sure he really said "couch", but basically to that effect. That is HIS personal preference, but he is much happier having the bike he really wanted all along. And he now says if he were ever to trade, many years from now, it would be to another RK.

Your spending a lot of money here to be compromising what you really want.
Get exactly what you want in the color you want and you will be happiest.
For me the Road King was what I wanted and have no regrets.
It definitely rides like a big touring bike with the shield on and loaded down.
but still have the option to take the shield off and travel light around town.
