Default Hot weather gear

Hi, just recently joined so I hope I'm doing this right. First I want to say that this is a very cool forum. So many choices I'm just learning to navigate here.

In Arkansas the last few days we have had temps already into the 90's with high humidity. I'm just wondering what some of you guys tips are for hot weather riding?

I think this has already been discussed in an other forum but I don't know which one. I wear: shorty helmet (please don't open this can of worms again), long sleeved Tee shirt or short sleeved with sun block, blue jeans, hiking boots (over the ankle). I pack a lightweight jacket just in case and pleanty of bottled water.

For the most part. I'll second Tripper's idea. Use the search category and search "warm weather gear" or any one of those words. It was a pretty thorough discussion. Me, I always wear a helmet (just me) full face in the winter and 3/4 in the summer, jeans and a T-shirt for summer, akthough I have a nice summer mesh jacket also. It is a First Gear MeshTX II. Because it was threatening to rain and I had my saddlebags off, I was short for storage the other day. I put the liner in the tool kit and wore the jacket. It was 85 in central IL and 85% humidity. I wore the jacket over a T0shirt and it was surpriwsingly cool whenever I was moving. It is a very well made jacket, has some protection in it and better can be added. I got it from New Enough Leathers. I also got First Gear rain gear there and really like it. The nice thing about the mesh jacket is that if it is really hot, like tX or AZ, you can wet down your T-shirt at rest stops and it helps even more. Ans don't forget the water. Hope this helps. Art

Man, I can't wait until it drops back down into the 90's.... Typically in HOT weather my wife and I will wear good (i.e. thick, non holy) jeans, our HD boots, long sleeve T-shirts, Full face/flip up helmets with the vents opent and the visor popped up one notch, and depending on not if we are on the highway, light weight jackets (I have an extra tall Levi jean jacket, my wife has a HD womens riding wind breaker) and bandana around my neck (tired of the sunburn !!). Kinda mixed on gloves, but since I got smacked on a knuckle this morning by small rock or a d@mn hard june bug (yes I bled and cussed...) I will wear them more often.
The good thing about HD and other motorcycle long sleeve T-shirts is that the sleeves are long enough, now the WCC ones I got as presents are not and after 10 miles on the highway they are about halfway up to my elbow.

Howdy OzarK, welcome to Harley Country. Being new to the forum, you wouldn't know what has been posted and what hasn't. No problem, we've all been in that boat before. I just got a new Harley, so I haven't had a chance to have any really hot weather to ride in. Years ago when I had my first bike (early 80"s) I just wore light summer clothing but I also had a long sleeved shirt for the evening when it got a little cooler. Enjoy the ride.

I typically wear a half helmet, long sleeve tee, jeans, HD boots and sometimes gloves. I know I should wear some leathers, but I can't take the heat...

I got roasted in traffic the other day in the leathers. Picked up the new mesh jacket that Harley just put out, it's about $100 and has spots for armor padding. However, I don't think that it'd do a hell of a lot in a real accident. But it sure feels nice to hang up the leathers for now.

I can understand the shorts thing, the other day when I was riding, I stopped to get a drink and I saw a dead bee where my crotch had been. I can imagine what that would have felt like if I had been wearing shorts and the bee hit my boys. Just thinking about it makes me shiver.

Me too! I always wear jeans and my boots but usually a tank top. I do bring a light weight jacket in the saddle bags in case we are out past dark and the temp drops.
