Default SERT Hack

Being a computer guy, I was just curious if anyone has attempted to crack the SERT so that it won't marry itself to the VIN. I don't have one and, if I did, I would never share the software, but, I figured somebody out there has given this a shot.

Do not have one to tear apart, but the only real question is where the bike-specific write is made. If it is in some EPROM or EEPROM on the part itself that is tougher to chg. If it is in Winders itself (as a hidden file or something like that), it would not be hard to accomplish. Even binary code is modifiable.

If someone can just get me some gauze pads, 30 wt motor oil, and some ball bearings, I'll get this SERT fixed up.

The SERT hardware key contains a Microprocessor and EEPROM (of sorts). The hardware records the VIN in the PROM, encrypted I believe. The software then checks to make sure the VIN in the key matches the ECM. If it matches it will allow the software to upload a MAP to the ECM.

There is no file or information stored on the PC that correlates to the VIN.

I believe they use to call them "dongles". There is a dongle on the cable... that'd be where the VIN lies..

Don't those SERTS have a string on the end of the roll?

Heard it has an Atmel ATMega inside. I have one coming. There is an EEprom section that could be erased. I've played with the 2313 and 8515, but not the atmega. Not yet. Anyone else working on this?
I want to learn, but not reinvent the wheel.
