HD has had a plant in Brazil since the late 90s and assembles bikes there to sell in Brazil to avoid very high tariffs. NON are exported to the US.
Same reason they are looking to build in India, for the India market. To my knowledge, there are only two assembly plants supporting the US market, York and KC. Then there's Tomahawk, but I beleive that is just molded parts, although I've been wrong before, so if I am, please tell me.
I was at a dealership and looking at new hand grips. The package said Made in Mexico. I went to sales mgr and asked about it.
SM: "yep. Some folks have noticed that."
Me: "and...?"
SM: "its come to that. Look at our leather. None of it is made here. The EPA laws are too restrictive for it to be manufactured here".
Well for some reason I just recieved an envelope from HOG and inside was a leather ID,credit card, money clip combo with the HOG emblem embalsed on one side of it. I just thought it was sort of Ironic that the plastic cover it came in had a sticker on it that said: Your guessed it,Made In China.
China has been slowly bying pieces of the United States for years.. It's their global strategy! Don't act too surprise because you and I, and every other american have been helping the cause by buying their cheap sh#@ instead of american goods!! You can't imagine the debt that we are in to China! It's only a matter of time when we raised their flag!
