Well, you'll be pretty close to Sandusky, OH which has Cedar Point which is a great amusement park but other than that it's just Ohio. It'll be cold and snowy in the winter (the salt will kill the bike), nice in the spring and fall and a little hot and humid in the summer. Dayton's not too big of a place and there's some really beautiful country when you get out of town. Ohio's full of bikers and cowboys and rednecks and cityfolk too. Sorry you're getting sent there though. You should plan some weekends to get together with Lovetoride. He lives on the opposite side.
Cold in winter and warm in summer. Riding season is from about April (a few random days prior to April) to October or November. You are only about 35-40 minutes from Cincinnati and Kings Island. Nice amusement park. Many malls and restaurants and don't forget the Bengals and Reds.
I live in Illinois now but was born and raised in Cincy
As has been said: Cold, snow, ice in winter. Winter runs from generally September through May. Just kidding. About the length of the winters, anyway. Beautiful late spring, summer, and early fall riding. Dayton isn't the biggest of cities, but too dang big for me. Since you're USAF you know about the biggest attraction in town, the Wright-Patterson museum. Roads get torn up by the winter freeze/thaw cycles. But there is some really great riding in just about any area you travel to. Taxes suck. Bud has to pay state income tax, local property tax, and even a special local income tax for his school district.
I left Ohio for the last time at midnight Jan 20, 1981, from Loudonville. It was -29 F. My bros and I got to Texas at 3 AM, 27 hours later. It was 70 F. We went riding. Only been back to visit my folks since. They're both gone, and I told my sisters since they never felt a desire to visit me in over 20 years, it'd be a long time before I came back that way.
Bottom line - beautiful state, away from the cities. The gooberment sucks your money faster than most other places. You'll enjoy the riding season, and have plenty of time to do upgrades when it ain't riding season.
Gotta agree with everyone else. I'm here now. May 16th and it's 60 out. Dayton is descent size. it's not cleveland or columbus but bigger than toledo. good bars, college there, lots of roads that twist. When you get here look me up we can meet, maybe get a few others to join and ride! If the wife will let me!

My parents live in Dayton and I am there quite a bit. It's a nice city. I have considered moving there on several occassions. As for things to do... Wright Patterson Air Force Museum is very cool. I'm not sure about places to ride. I am usually in the car with the kids when we visit. Good luck!

I worked in Dayton a couple years. Locals had a problem with the bikes downtown parking multiple bikes in a space. I think they restricted it to two bikes. They painted small circles in each space and the two bikes closest to the circle was legal. Others got towed. Nice countryside riding though
I grew up in Dayton. I liked to ride in the Belbrook area way south of Dayton. Nice hills, big trees, fun to just cruise. Watch out for the deer! They are much bigger than you see in Florida. They'll mess up your new wax job.. The state HOG rally is nearby in Hocking Hills this year. Very Scenic woodland area towards Coulmbus.
I heard the AAA baseball games are great fun, but sell out very quickly.
