Christmas Eve in the Davis Mountains of West Texas, the year was 2000. 4 miles left on a 550 mile trip, it was dark and had just begun to snow. I was on my rice burner then, an 85 Virago XV700, when a family of javelinas went across right in front of me. I caught the second one towards its haunches and went up and over it. I felt my front end bottom out and heard a distinct 'crack'. Landed on my wheels on the other side. braked to a stop, turned around and watched the sob stand up shake and run off. Pumped the front end it felt okay, so rode carefully to my sisters house and pulled into the drive. My heart was still racing...nothing like a shot of pure adrenaline to wake you up.
On the trip home, my front forks were seeping oil. Took 3 attempts with fork seals to finally get the front forks to seal again. They definitely took a good wallop.
Yup those animals are tough.
