I just have to whine for a few minutes. I laid my bike down about a month ago, and a new tank was ordered. I was told it would take between 7-10 weeks to get the new tank in due to paint schedules. Guess what, they got the tank in after only four weeks!!! Bad news, they ordered the wrong tank. The guy that ordered it was gone today when it came in, so I am waiting to see what he can do about getting the correct one in tomorrow. It may have to wait for the paint cycle to come back around again, and will probably get back in by the time they originally told me, but man I was excited that it was here already. Guess that's why they say it will take that long...so they can have time built in for ordering the right one.
sucks.. about a month in half ago my dad hit a deer on his 08 UC and they said 8-12 weeks for paint...well they called and said its done, going to get it sat...
I'm sorry you got the wrong tank. Make sure to check the right one when you get it... for defects and such. Just a tip from someone who has ordered parts from factory....
7 to ten weeks is not abnormal and I think the wrong tank was only a fluke... but I know what you mean about them having ordered the wrong one. That isn't usually the case. I would more think that they screwed up and sent the wrong tank to the wrong place then that they actually messed up the whole deal. Your tank might be sitting somewhere else with someone looking at it saying the same thing you are.

That sucks...not the same thing but similar...I custom ordered a front door for my house from Home Depot,4 weeks pass and the first one came the wrong size so the re order, 4 week pass and the second door come it opening the wrong way, the re order it no problem another 4 weeks pass and the 3rd door comes with the wrong window installed..I finally snap and ask for the store manager and after explaining everything I ended up getting the door at no charge
So much for good customer service. Not a wonder why we have a problem in America. Is there not pride in ones work?
I don't say this often but you couldn't be further from the truth.
It's not an issue of worker's pride it's an issue of scheduling non-current parts and paints through the factory in York. They can't do it ad hoc - it has to be done in a way that doesn't overly disrupt production. If you make it out to the factory they make a point of explaining how this works. Actually Harley has a remarkable record in supporting their products going back decades (i.e you can buy a true H-D 1940 something part and they'll make it for you with the original tooling! They are quite unique in that regard - but they do expect you to wait so they can load the right tooling (for instance if your tank is not the current design they have to get the right sheet metal dies from storage) and they do this when they have more than one or two to make. Think about this - if your car needed a replacement sheetmental part - would you expect the manufacturer to deliver it to the body shop painted by the manufacturer? Not a chance. I know it's a drag - but try to understand what's involved. Now as far as ordering the wrong parts - that's unfortunate.
One thing I really wonder about s whether they'll continue to offer this level of service if H-D starts to cut costs as severely as they're threatening . . .

I can wait for the tank. This one came in with the right paint, but it is not the Road King Classic one with the metal emblems on the side. What got ordered was a Road King tank that came with the HD decals on the side.
I am sure it was just a mistake, and it will probably be delivered to me by the date that I was told initially, just frustrating that it was delivered already and it was the wrong one. They have been more than helpful otherwise, and if the insurance guy during his follow up call with me had not told me of the tank arriving I would never have known.
Their customer service has been very good otherwise, and I truly think that this was a mistake. If it happens again, then I might start to think differently.

No doubt a mistake - bad luck bud - I hope you get the right one soon.
