Just a quick one. I am looking to start a new project for the winter, I came across a this 1981 FXE. The bike is fair to good condition minus the fact it has been some what molested. It starts runs and drives. the millage is anyones guess. He is asking 7G, I am interested in other opinions or other things I should look closely at before jumping the gun. I got a big carrot in my jeans for an older shovel or pan! But I have never owned one before....
Compare pricing with other shovels here: http://www.walnecks.com/. They are a classified cycle trader magazine that deals with mostly older stuff. Also do a search on the internet for that same bike to get comparison pricing.
If it was me, I would not put out $7k for that thing. I've seen really nice EVO's go for less. I'm not talking sporties either. I wouldn't put out more than $4k for it. That's a long way from $7k. Shop around before you buy.
When you do compare prices, if they are stating 'retail' value knock off 2k right then. Never pay retail buying from individual, (unless you want it badly).
I think your model designation FXE is incorrect. FX was for Superglide and FXE was Superglide Electric Start. Definately not a Superglide front end and there is a kicker. Nice looking Shovel, probably 80", but a little pricey.

That's why I said "molested" It is a FXE, with electric start as well as the kicker. The front end has been swaped out as well as the primary drive. It has BDL belt inside the cover. I'm looking to offer this guy 5G and see what happens. I already have a scoot; If bites then I will have two.
Not a bad looking bike. Think your offer of 5 is a fair market value as long as you do not intend to take it back to stock configuration.
How many miles on the motor/tranny since rebuild? Pipes are blued a little to much for my liking but re-jetting the carb can fix that.
And forget the 'recommendations' on an evo. You get a pan or shovel you won't look back. They take a bit more maintenance but they are a blast to ride.
