Default softtail feedback

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I will get the softtail. What is the standard seat like, or can someone recommend a comfy long distance seat? I will be carrying my girlfriend at times. Also 'two up' am a likely to bottoming out, should I get a different suspension setup than standard. I weigh about 80kg, my girl friend about 60kg. The softtail is the first bike i've seen with a belt drive, do they require lubricating like a chain? What about noise from the belt? Luke

Let's see, a kilo is 2.2 pounds and I weigh 250 pounds and my wife weighs, um, less than me, and we don't bottom out. You can adjust the stock shocks for the extra weight. I've never heard any noise from the belt and have never lubed it except on my other bike when I couldn't get it to stop squeeking.

the standard seat is just fine for long distance....and I mean 12 and 14 hours in the saddle at a time...as for the shocks...you won't bottom out...BUT...I found going into corners the softail was a little sloppy...while laying on the throttle the shocks gave a little coming out of corners so i put a lowering kit on it....the suspension is a little stiffer now (not uncomfortable) and with the stiffer suspension I find the "sloppy" feel has gone away..JMHO

I personally hated my stock seat on my Softail standard.

Try the stock softail seat before you swap it out, you may like it. Belts are quiet, clean and a lot less maintenance, no more lubing and less adjustments.

I like my seat and the wife hasn't complained about her passanger pillion. Riding 2up I noticed some give in the cornering so the dealer stiffened up the shocks a bit and problem went away. The belt only requires inspection and tention adjustment no more lubing. I don't hear any noise from my belt.

I didn't see what model Softail you were looking at, or what year.

Mine has a super cumfy (stock) seat, was no problem going the thousand miles to Sturgis. Suspension perfect (I am not a twisty racer) and the rpm's low during 75 mph cruise. (that will vary with the year of bike).

I'm looking at the softtail standard 09', or the night train 09', however i haven't test rode either so might end up deciding on something completely different.

One reason i'm getting rid of my triumph, is the bike's doing 5000rpm's at highway cruising speed 100-110kph, the other reason is my **** is well and truly numb after a 2 hour ride to see my folks.

Well then you don't want a seat like mine
