I know it's hard to hold a temper in a situation like that but I'm not sure that was the apropriate place to do that.

Like you said, today it's really easy to get into trouble over something like that even though a lot of folks probable though it was justified. That just goes to show you how screwed up things are.
The apprpriate thing to do , would have been to tell the kid to clean it up , Nicely mind you.
Then have him to come clean to the store manager. And the Simply take him home. WHERE THERE ARE NO WITNESSES FOR THE " This is gonna hurt me more than it does you" Routine.[&:]

You guys are so damn funny. One five second snap-shot in to this familie's lives and you think you have enough info to identify this guy as a great dad!
Is this how you pick women as well. This guy could be a Fu@#in child molester for all you know.
If he was a great dad his kid probably wouldn't have made that mess to start with.

Here-here! Great dad! Ya right, get a clue.

Simply aplauding the actions listed. Sure is a good sign of the home life, lets see, at the grocery store (likely buys food for the family and knows what to purchase, probably a part of the planning), expects his kids to respect others property, provides direction and discipline when needed, and ensures that what his family is responsible for they take care of (such as the mess was cleaned up and paid for).

Honestly I am a bit concerned about your imediate jump to the conclusion you listed. It is a far better then odds on chance that the guy is not a child molester, possible, but quite likely not. Most people are not bad, some are true, but most are just fine.

Oh yeah also remember, its just the freakin internet and this is a discussion about one public incident. We dont know anything about his home life, you are correct. I guess we could start some sort of project and investigate this guys life, turn it into a sort of "The Truman Show", post all the info here.... Watch for him at the grocery store again, follow him out to his car.... etc

But that would be wierd and probably very boring so instead I am going to go for a ride... funny how for me most things end up with that very same statement.

I agree with the above. As a reader of the post with obvious comments about the way things were handled regardless of the topic title, an out of the blue statement like that really gets you thinking. It also doesn't let anyone know your input on the listed subject. It's very close to the "Me thinks thou does protest to much". You agree, not, whats your solutiion. True the ideal situation would be everyones family are all little angles, however life quickly shows that just isn't so. So fill us in, don't leave a "troll" statement without some back up.

That's one of my biggest gripes. When I'm in public with my 5-year old boy and I reel him back in from time to time in an effort to teach him how to act around other people, so many strangers feel the need to point out "he's just a little boy". That just gets under my skin every time. Shut up and mind your own business. If I don't teach him now how in the world is he going to learn in the first place??? Those are probably the same people that bitch about teenagers not having any respect anymore. Well guess what...respect has to be taught by the parents and the "he's just a little boy" attitude ain't gonna get you there. My philosophy is... don't spoil their fun and let them be kids but show them their boundaries and be firm. And there' nothing wrong with a spanking if needed. But it's best to keep a cool head.

Well said Bro! Any parent that "spanks"or otherwise disciplines their children are showing they "are"about the kids, not the other way around! parents that try to use Logic with kids make me sick, kidsdon't use logic in their thinking, thats why they do such dumb stoooopid **** sometimes, there is no logical thinking like '"if Ido so and so this will happen".

Ya want to see something scary about punishing your kids. Check with the child protective services in your county and see what they constitute as child abuse. Any kind of corporal punishment, name calling, over bearing actions along with the real ugly stuff that we typically think of when you hear the topic, to name a few. And once they decide you are an abuser, there is usually no appeal and you are stuck with the title for about ten years, which then means no helping with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, YMCA/YWCA, Sunday School teaching etc.

OK : ) here we go in reply to jburtonpdx, bay13, Coaster, ******, & EasternSP ...
First off, I did not complain. So bay13, if you thinks I do protest to much, think again. I did not complain - I said I found it funny, and I still do. No complaints here, I'm here to have a little fun - not get worked up. So me thinks you are misunderstanding were I'm comin from bub.

Second - I didn't leave a troll statement without back-up. I recall saying that if he was such a great dad, his kid probably wouldn't have made what sounds to be an above average mess. All kids make messes, but it sounds like this kid was way overboard.... A troll statement usually involves a sales pitch, and I've nothing to sell - shucks!

I do however understand what ****** is saying, and agree with him a little there ( except for the reasoning part ).... I'm all for disciplining the kids - even in public. In fact, when I see a kid acting up in public and not being dealt with it makes me want to spank the kid - AND the parent my self.
I'm a dad of three teens - and they all got lots of spankings growing up, followed up with a good talk ( sorry ****** ). I'm a firm believer in parents having - and exercising - their right, and duty to dish out spankings when needed - without being persecuted by the nuts on the left.
So, I agree with you guys for the most part. In fact, I feel bad for the children who grow up with parents who don't care enough about them to get off their A$$e$ and discipline them.... Those people should not be allowed to have kids, and don't deserve them.

My initial statement was never one that displayed any disagreement with punishing the kids when they need it. It was about how some of you are so quick to form an opinion about anything based on so little information. I will repeat, so no-one else missquotes my position in future posts here. It's about how some of you are so quick to form an opinion about anything based on so little information.

So having said all of that, I still think it's funny how some of you jumped to the conclusion that that guy was a great dad just by a five second snap-shot at the grocery store just because he spanked his kid so put that in your pipes and smoke it.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, time out for a minute. I was only interjecting what most county Child Protective Services think of child discipline. I totaly believe child discipline is essential to make sure our kids have their heads on straight when they go out into the world. I was just stating what we need to be aware of when we do discipline our children. What used to be a safeguard for children who where being beat up by the old man who comes home drunk and beats up the wife, kids and dog has gone far beyond the original intent and is now a device to interject non-elected government workers control into our homes.

I'm not trying to get in anyones face here on the issue. Just sharing what I know on the topic.
