Normally, you're correct; raked trees on raked frames is used to decrease trail, and raked trees on a stock frame can often result in too little trail for stability. However, the key on the HD tourers is that the neck post is in front of the fork tubes, rather than behind like "normal" bikes. That allows a steep angle and longer than normal trail. It's also why one hears of the tourers occasionally doing the high speed wobble more often than the other bike lines, and is probably due to something getting slightly out of adjustment/worn.
having never owned a bagger, and being unfamiliar with the steering head placement...thank you for this response.
Hey guys... I have an 07 Road King Police. I'm 6'2 and love my bike. however, I feel like it is too short for me. I already have a ton of money invested in the bike. other than feeling it is too short, it is the best I could ask for. My buddy who works for Harley said try putting on a 21" wheel and that would help me accomplish the look im going for. anyone ever rake the front end of a road king?
There is a guy named Bean're that rides around on a raked out purple roadking. If you "google" his name (and it is spelled that way) you'll find more on him and his neat bike.
I am 6' 3" and weigh in at 255 I ride an 06 and a 07 road king. The wife said that when I ride the 06 I look like a monkey fu#@ing a football. The 07 on the other hand rides and feels like a completely different model.Same seats,bars,etc..so go figure..Not sure about raking a RK. But maybe floorboard extensions or something like that.Forgot to mention I wear a size 14 boot so I always ride with my heels resting on top of the highway pegs..Good Luck
