City Safety/Security
Hello everyone!
I leave in Washington, DC right now and when I will get my first HD I am concerned about what should I do to prevent people from stealing my bike?
If I do not move out from where I live right now my bike will have to sleep outside on the street. My hood is very safe but ya know we never know But if I move out I would like to go live in VA somewhere in Alexandria or Arlington. Smaller cities, but still close to DC.
What would you advise me to do regarding security? Buying a big lock and a big chain? What other systems are effective and also easy to take with me when I will be cruising in town and around?
Thanks!
Vinny.

Hey I live in Alexandria. I cover my bike when not planning on riding, and I live in an area that's not driven by so no one sees it except maybe the people who live there or delivery people. Haven't had a problem over the past year or so. .I'd never store it on a main street, though. Look for a place that has a garage.

I'd be just as worried about being vandalize as much as theft.
How about a covered trailer on the street to use as a garage that.............naw that wont work either...
Wouldn't want to be in Ur situation.
Know anyone with a garage, close......
park her in the living room...
hire over nite guards...(armed preferred)
NAW...... I still wouldn't want to be in Ur shoes....

There is a garage when I live but the landlord stores his stuff in it...maybe I could try to negotiate to have access to it...

I would talk to the land lord about using the garage for the bike. You can have all the locks and alarms in the world... some punk can still walk by and cut the seat, dent the tank, or kick it over.

Yes, and even more than vandalism, just outright carelessness and stupidity. Once when I had my old BMW parked on the street in NYC overnight (in Greenwich Village), somebody dumped a truckload of garbage bags on top of it. I thought it was gone at first. But no, it was just laying on its side under the garbage. I'm not kidding.
Around the corner from me now are some very nice apartments. Some guy parks his Guzzi on the street, with a cover. Twice I've driven by in the morning and seen the bike laying on its side, cover still on, obviously knocked over by some careless jerk in a car. Not long ago I saw it with the cover off, it was banged up pretty bad.
I wouldn't leave my bike on the street. In my later NYC years, I found a commercial garage and paid to park it there. Took me 30 minutes to get there and get the bike out, and cost me $130 a month (15 years ago), but at least I could sleep at night.

This is gonna be a smartass reply... so sorry here goes.
If you really want to cut down on the chances of someone taking your new Harley,
Get you a Honda Cover... let the flames begin :-)
