You need to pull it, wipe it off with a rag, then stick it back in and check the level. It's normal to have oil way up the stick after you've been riding it.

Mine too, but sometimes there is oil film up above that. Thought that could have been what is confusing the OP. However if he has a 2010 FatBoy, I believe he should be checking the level with it on the jiffy stand, not with the bike up and level.
ride the bike bout 20mins
pull in garage, turn it off, leave it on the jiffy stand and wait 3-4 mins..
pull dipstick and clean, install and pull dipstick again and read oil level...still on the jiffy stand.
thats the way my manual says to do it.....On my Softail...
