The other day I took my bike for a mini mini tour.
Came home, turned it off. Turned it on again a few minutes later and let it idle a few minutes cause I wanted to check the oil.
With the engine hot and turned off and me straddling the bike to keep it steady, I checked the oil. It was difficult to check. The stick had oil all over it and bubbly is spots. I put the stick back in and waited 30 sec. And when I checked again ....same thing. Hard to tell how full it was/is.
Is that normal?
You need to pull it, wipe it off with a rag, then stick it back in and check the level. It's normal to have oil way up the stick after you've been riding it.
Dependant on the year and model, you probably shoud be checking the oil while it's on the kickstand. Engine off, of course , OK to check cold, just observe the correct mark as described in your owners manual.
