OK,if the cranks are made in china, and maybe the rings, maybe the pistons, and who knows what else I must ask why? Is it because our labor force gets paid too much and so HD uses China to keep cost down and profits up?I would really like to know how Chinese quality compares to ours.Maybe their cranks are better than what HD was making.Maybe HD wanted a better crank in our bikes. But probably it all boils down to HD wanting more money for themselves. This of course makes me feel kinda dumb for saying I ride an American motorcycle when it is really a American Chinese motorcycle. How much Chinese stuff has to be in it before it becomes a Chinese motorcycle? Are we there yet?

Kinda sounds like it. First trinkets and doodads for our bikes were built in China. Then it became more substantial parts. Hmmmmm....now, maybe even some internal parts, and its ok? Yep, imho, thats the kind of attitude that will say its ok when the first 'all Chinese' Harley is put on the market, certainly, at a cheaper price. Wonder if it'll go 'wing ding ding'....lol

So what your saying is China manufacturing is ONLY substandard ?

Canon, Toyota, Thinkpad, Yamaha, Nikon, Honda, I phone, and we mustn't forget mikuni(Performance Carbs popular with HD ), to name a few, are all SUBSTANDARD ?

I tend to buy based on product reliability/quality, NOT on where it was manufactured.
I don't feel like rewarding some inept business just because it happens to tout "Made In America", but can't be bothered to actually produce a quality product.

So just to be clear.
I don't care where the parts came from. (excluding "Slave/Forced labor")
I do care about quality.

Not that I disagree with your point, but I am certain you are confusing China & Japan. Your examples are Japanese companies.

I do agree with your point. No matter where something is manufactured, including the US, the product will be made to whatever specs the company provides. If the product is engineered poorly and/or low quality materials are specified, you end up with a crappy product.

Some of these replies just aren't serious. We all have had to buy chinese junk; a lot of times there is no choice. So we all know that chinese manufacturing is substandard, without question. If Harley cranks were chinese, every other one would break within a thousand miles.
