i love my icon jacket, i got the retro daytona it has some patches and whatnot but you can get a plain black icon jacket too. the fit on me is perfect and it has armor which you barely notice, just a great jacket. it's designed in the US but made overseas like most jackets.

I choose Lanlitz because that is my choice but that is real BS to berate products made else where. Icon, Dainesse, HD to name a few are very well made and worn by some damm good riders.

Just ride and knock off with the pser BS.

Another leather jacket thread.........and the usual responses.

To sum up:

1) you get what you pay for (if it seems surprisingly cheap, it is)

2) quality jackets come from quality companies (I've had Schott and Dianese: great jackets both!)

3) be sure about fit *before* you order (good companies have good customer service, but instead of relying on that, be a good customer and call, with your measurements)

4) custom is custom (shouldn't be compared to off-the-rack, unless the price points are similar)

5) don't forget about goatskin, bison, or horsehide (do your research and buy what suits your need, and your eye)

I don't know about all that. My other jacket is over 20 years old and it was nothing special like Schott or Langlitz. Just at an off the rack leather jacket at a small store. Maybe that's why I felt comfortable giving leatherup a try and I'm glad I did.

Certainly not knocking any other maker's though. If your wallet can handle it and that's what you want then who is anyone to say otherwise?

Well...tossed around the options presented here. Thanks for all the help. Langitz and Vanson were out of my league. Called Fox Creek and voiced my concerns. They couldn't promise me the sleeves would be long enough with the apes. Also with my shoulder width I would have to buy a larger chest size and then of course the waist gets bigger. They did howver say they could cutomize. I went to the dealer and bought an HD reflective skull leather today. Couldn't fit any better if it was custom. Nice tight cuffs, long in the sleeves even reaching for the apes. Hugs my waist and doesn't just hang there. Followed some advice here and sat on a bike to check function. No bunching at the bottom and it has a two way zippper so you can unzip from the bottom to open it a bit if it did. Nice vents and zip out liner.

Dealer had 15% off. Combined with the bonus bucks I have earned it ended up $327 out the door. Also got the classic cycles wall plaque for spending over $75. All in all not a bad day at the dealer.

Since the wallet was open I picked up a new pair of Magnum boots as well. Guess the family will be getting cards for Christmas this year.
