Thank you again for all the great support and good words. I made sure the scoot was taken care of first - followed AAA to the dealership and made sure she was well taken care of before I went to the ER. The insurance for the bike is right on top of it and will proceed quickly for repairs with the best care and parts. Now if I can just get TriCare to get their act together, everything should turn out Ok. May need some metal and screws in the distal end of the fibula near the ankle, not enough to make a good mend without it. Will probably be out for at least 3 -4 months. Enough time for me to evaluate my indiscretions and failure to protect my scoot. Thank you everyone for the great good feelings.
here in jersey we get sand gathering at every intersection it seems. That will put you down just as quick. Heal and get back on. How bad was the bike hurt? I didn't see that mentioned
A preliminary assessment: dent in left side of gas tank and H-D logo, left mirror and support banged up, left side of transmission case scratched and gouged, left handlebar bent - my left foot kept the rear out of harms way. I will know the full extent when dealership and insurance do some more assessments. I will do a thorough walk around before we settle on final damages.
Sorry for the pain. Been there and went back again. I now paraphrase Forrest Gump:
Stupid is as I do. Nice thing about your story, and mine, were the folks that showed up out of nowhere to help, and left just as quickly. There really are good people out there. Take care.
A positive follow-up. Had surgery yesterday on the broken ankle, six screws and a piece of metal re-enforcement and all is well. I want to ad that had some trepidation regarding orthopedic surgery. Not to worry great docs and hospital personnel, super treatment and on a scale of one to ten, most of the time pain was at a two. One time it went to four and they pushed the pain meds and I was a happy camper again. All in all, not a bad way to spend a Friday, I would not hesitate to go back for another procedure; they made you feel special all the way. The scoot is well on its way to being fixed. Insurance adjuster showed up, cut the check and the parts and repairs are proceeding as I write. The doc said that I will be able to walk without crutches in two weeks!!!! Things have really changed in the world of orthopedic medicine. Makes you want to go out and break something else. NOT!!! If I had to make such a stupid mistake, it's great to know that there are support services there to help. Thanks to everyone for their great well wishes and words of support and wisdom.
