Default 07 hurting our values?

Do you think that the 07 models coming standard with the 96" and the 6 speed will crush the values of the late model bikes? I realize the MOCO has to move forward with improvements, but I think they are chicken sh&t for doing these upgrades and basically leaving the list prices status quo. I think it will hammer resale value. I do not intend on selling anyway, but the big picture looks to me like they shi&t on their loyal followers. I am all for improvements, but they should have reflected it in the price to protect their own IMO. Who would ever buy a 05 or 06 with these upgrades out there for basically the same $$? [:@]

Yes and no. You won't get list for a stock 06 most of the time, but some bikes started in 06 will have no adjacent years, so more limited in qty. That over time will make them hold steady

If you don't plan on selling , as you say, it doesn't really matter.Does it?

Hell things change all the time.Newer or bigger is not always better. If problems are raised with this new 96 or 6 speed the people with 05 and 06s will be screaming how glad they are they bought when they did.Hell it's a motorcycle, transportation, and if purchased as an investment is a stupid investment to begin with.Ride it until it gives out and re-build or buy another.

Enjoy the one you have. Not a damn thing wrong with the 88s.

How did the owners of MY98's feel when the TC came out in the Dyna and Touring line?

What about the Softy's of 99, when the 88B was released?

05 Dyna owners, hence the TC - A1 model?

This is, I believe the shortest run of a motor line for a while.....

Evolution was released in mid 83, and ran until 99... 16 years of the same powertrain......

TC-A came out in 99, -B in 2000, Delphi Fuel management was started in 2000 on softy's and 01 for touring bikes, 05 for Dyna's.....

Now it is on to a new powertrain and design.... Things change, and no bike nowadays is something that is an "Investment"..... Unless it is an OLD piece of iron, and still original.....

Motorcycles are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it...

And FWIW, the public, not any of the manufacturers, are the ones that set the values, due to purchasing trends....

You are correct, it does not matter to me because I do not plan on selling. I already upgraded to a 95" and am happy with my 5 speed. . BUT, you are missing my point. I am not talking about me. What about the 10's of thousands poor saps that my want to sell or trade or upgrade? That's my point. HD is putting the screws to them IMO. They should have reflected a fair price for the upgrade, one that would at least compare to a upgrade cost. Makes sense to protect the shareholders and makes sense for the faithful riders who made the company. Instead they actually lower the cost in some cases as reported by our neighbors to the north in Canada. They can actually buy a 07 for less. No sense to me.

99% of bikes were not purchased as an investment.....................if you did, well.................

just think of it as a car now, as soon as you drive it off the lot kiss away about 30% of its value......

IMO, were all a little Jealous right about now of our younger 2007 Models..........................[]

I know I am............[8D]

lets sit back and see whats instore for 2008..................for 2008 I heard the CVO models have 131" motors...........

Hell, I bought a new '99 Softail knowing full well that there was a balanced TC right around the corner. Not one regret buying the last year of the EVO at that time especially when some of those twin cam cam follower and bearing issues plagued by buddies. I'd buy another bone stock 80" EVO or 74" or 80" Shovel in a minute displacement be damned (but it is nice )

So I ditch my shovel right for an EVO about the time the Twin cam comes out and I bought my '06 35th anniversary Dyna Twin cam right before they stroke it out. I'm sensing a pattern here?!?

But HD did it right. Stroke the motor but use lighter weight con rods and pistons while keeping their current production big bore "SE" cylinders on the shelf for the 07's for a quick jump to 103". Brilliant, plain and simple.

I don't think the new changes will have any effect on resale value. I think production numbers will have an effect, and that started in '05-'06. It used to be, you had to wait a year to get your hands on a brand new HD. You had to get on the waiting list to get one. If a guy had money burning a hole in his pocket, the only route to go was a used bike. People got more for the used ones than a new one cost, just because you didn't have to wait. That all changed a couple years ago. But, the used market never reflected the hit because people who owned the used bikes had paid $1000-$3000 over list price. They owed a lot on the bike, so the used price reflected that... Nowadays, you can walk in a dealer and ride out on a new bike the same day... and there are some left over '06 models. If guys want to sell a 2000-2006 bike, they're gonna have to beat the dealer's price to make it attractive to a buyer.

Plus, lots of the people buying in the used market don't know a hell of a lot about Harleys anyway. They're coming from a metric or they are first time buyers. They got no idea the differencr between 88 or 96 .... they are just numbers on the AC cover. They just want a Harley.

To hell with what a bike is worth.....I have put more on mine already more than I can afford!!!!! I have a HARLEY. All my friends who either have faster metrics or dont have a bike cause their wives have them by the Ba*** are jealous as hell that I'm living my dream! They dont know if its a 88, 96 or whatever, all they know its a Harley and they dream of having one just like I did! I have to admit I grab the clutch every now and then for that 6th gear I don't have, but to me its just a little extra window dressing to already what is the best bike in the world!!!! So instead of worring about something I'm not goin to buy anyway or something I don't plan on sellin g for the next 8 years, I' m going to concentrate on the ride I plan to make in 3 weeks - a 1,400 mile journey to STURGIS!!!!! PARTY ON MY FELLO HARLEY AFICIONADOS!!!!
