I'm new to the cycling world and I'm shopping a leather jacket. I was told to check out leatherup.com. The jackets on that sight are manufactured by Xelement and are about 25% the cost of other jackets. My question is ...is this a classic case of you get what you pay for? Meaning the quality is about 25% of more expensive jackets. .......or is it a case of dollar for dollar these are a good value?
I have seen the leatherup jackets and was not impressed with them they look like poor quality as stated above you get what you pay for i love my harley leather
I have ordered a jacket from them. The site mentioned to order 1 size larger than you wear. I did, when it came it was a nice jacket, but was too small. They told me I could return it and exchange for a larger size. When they received the return they advised me they were out of that style of jacket in my size, but I could select another style. I finally found a style I liked, but they also advised me they were out of that style.
At that point I just gave up and they did issue me a refund, but I was out the shipping cost to return and the original shipping cost.
Nice products, but not sure what to tell you about ordering the size that fits you.
i got an xelement off ebay it wasn't from leatherup but it was an xelement jacket and it was pretty bad, the leather almost seemed like bonded leather it was terrible it promptly went back. i wouldn't recommend it.
if you're looking for cheaper price tag and quality i would check out bikers den, their jackets were really really good quality for ~$200.00. i just couldn't get the fit right so mine went back but it was nice leather, well put together, and heavy.
or just pay another $200 and get a nice quality leather you'll be happy with.
Agree with a couple of posts above. You can do really well on eBay with the Harley leathers. I just got this one for a Xmas present and am really impressed with the quality of it
To think you have to pay a fortune for a good leather jacket is bullshit. I paid $99. about 5 years ago now and that jacket is one of the best I ever had. I suggest checking out any local shops if any in your area.
you get what you pay for, you can buy a $99 jacket and it can last for a while and serve it's purpose just fine, but make no mistake that 99 buck jacket is made of the lowest quality leather you can find on the market. the exception is of course if you're buying used, you can pick up a nice coat for 100 bucks or so.
i would pay a bit more, you can plan on keeping a coat for 20 years or more and nicer leather will get better with age and tell your story, crappy leather will look like bad and not stand the test of time. that's my opinion...

I own a Fox Creek, an FXRG, and an XElement. From a quality standpoint, the XElement lags behind the other two, but it's still a good jacket. For $79 it was a steal.
I got a pair of chaps from them too that were probably 1/3 the cost of the Fox Creek chaps I have. They're thinner leather, but assembled well.

Looks like I'll be getting flamed, but here goes... I have a jacket I purchased from leatherup.com. I've had several motorcycle jackets, and the leatherup jacket ranks right up there with the best of them, Harley leather included for those who feel Harley leather is high quality. The thing that leatherup is known for, is the consumer product reviews. When you read through 70 some odd positive reviews on a specific item, well, its comforting.
